Duluth anniversary trip ideas

I know this question gets asked every so often so I apologize in advance and thank anyone willing to share some info! :-)

Our 3rd (!!!) anniversary is Oct. 20th.  I'm thinking a weekend trip to Duluth would be fun sometime during the month of October.  (This didn't pan out last year...).  When are the fall leaves the best up there?

I love the idea of a quaint, romantic B&B.  Trip Advisor lists the A.G. Thompson House as the #1 B&B in Duluth - has anyone stayed there?  Their website is down so I'm thinking of giving them a call.

Any ideas, hints, tip, advice etc. greatly appreciated! :-)

GRAZIE!

Re: Duluth anniversary trip ideas

  • The past two years I've been on the North Shore the second weekend of October and the leaves have been at their peak and absolutely gorgeous.  We're going again this year (Oct 7-10) to enjoy the fall colors again :-)

PS the pic in my sig is from our fall trip last October :-)

  • We go every year. we usually stay in two-harbors.

We go to Gooseberry, Spend a day in Duluth. Mostly just relaxing.

We like to drive a lot- we usually go North for a while, check out little random rest-stops, restaurants and stuff. Do some walking/hiking on trails. We try to be outside a lot.

  • This year I would say 1st weekend in Oct might have the best peak, it seems like leaves are already changing.  No advice on the B&B, that would be a lot of fun!

  • Shoot...I think we might miss the leaves then.  I am booked solid the weekend of Oct 8-10.

A little cabin in the woods somewhere would be fun too...

Too many choices!!  I get travel planning anxiety  :-)

  • The leaves peak earlier in Duluth than down here in the cities. Some years you will see full color at the end of September even!

We stayed at Larsmont Cottages right after our wedding and it was fantastic. We got a 1 bedroom lakeview cottage and loved it. We had a balcony and were literally 20 feet from the lake. They have fire pits and chairs along the lakeside but they are spread out for privacy. They supply the wood and everything you would need for the fire. The place was gorgeous and SO relaxing. They have a pool in their main "club house" and a hot tub outside (romatic Wink). They have an award winning restaurant there. I can't rave about that place enough. The nice thing is that it's a short drive to Duluth but yet when you are at Larsmont you feel like you are a world away from everything.
Oh yeah, I would highly suggest getting a couples massage while their. There is a massage cabin (oh and sauna cabins too) and that was the best massage of my life. I could hear the waves crashing the whole time and think I was the most relaxed I have ever been during that hour. I fantasize about going there and getting another massage that all the time!! Smile
  • I'm a little late on replying but you haven't had your trip yet so maybe you haven't booked it yet.  We stayed at the Solglimt Bed and Breakfast right off of Lake Superior on Park Pointe... about a 1/2 block from the lift bridge. Absolutely amazing!! The food was great and the owners were so friendly and helpful.
