DH and I are on the hunt for a storage coffee table (he has so much video game and comic "stuff" that needs a home now that his man cave has turned into a nursery!). I had been leaning toward something upholstered (for when Liam starts moving around on his own), but then we saw this in the Crate and Barrel catalog:
http://www.crateandbarrel.com/furniture/living-room-storage/hunter-trunk/s485155
And we are both in love. However, I can't fathom paying $500 for something that Liam will likely not treat nicely...or really for a coffee table at all. I'd really like to keep it under $150 if possible.
Has anyone seen anything similar or something completely different that you love? All of our wood in the living room is espresso or black/brown from Ikea, and our upholstery is in the woodsy greens/browns/tans family.
Re: Furniture help!
Is it the trunk-style that you're looking for? This is closer to your price range...

Have you tried searching for just plain trunks? I used to use one for my coffee table (pre-DH) and got it for about 40$ on sale--it was about 100$ regularly. Plus, many will have rounded corners and no legs, which can prevent tipping.
Sorry this is less than helpful
That table is pretty amazing, though.
I would scour estate sales and flea markets. You could even find a regular trunk and just use that, or get a cut of plexiglass to fit on the top if you want to be able to put drinks, etc, on it.
Also, if you haven't already, take a look at this blog, and maybe even email the blogger (couldn't hurt!) she's BRILLIANT at this kind of thing.

Ok, now that I'm not at work, I can look. Have you tried searching for a "mission trunk"? That will be the closest to the table at C&B. Here's one that you would need to stain to match: http://www.homefurniture2go.com/product/JFA380/Mission-Trunk-Cocktail-Table-by-Southern-Enterprises.aspx?cat=102A02A02-JFA380.
If you're up for the plain trunk/chest suggestions, here's a decent wicker trunk: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Wicker-Trunk/1761494/product.html?rcmndsrc=2.

I'm late to this, but I just got an email from Overstock with this in it and thought of this post! I can't vouch for that particular one, but it has great reviews, and we have one similar and love it. It's also nice and soft, and probably great for having a toddler around.
(it's showing up at $135, as I clicked through the email they sent. if you're interested PM me and I can forward it to you)
