thoughts on air purifiers?

do they really help take smells out of the air?

Re: thoughts on air purifiers?

  • I had one at one point and I really didn't see a difference. It always got super dirty and needed to be cleaned, but I can't say people with allergies were better off or it cleaned up smells or anything.
  • Absolutely!  We have a Whirlpool Whispure 510 purifier and it helps keep our very small bedroom smelling fresh after the both of us and our two dogs sleep in there all night.  It also helps our allergies.  We put it in the living room after cleaning to help get the dust out of the air, and if we have a candle or scent sticks out, you can't even smell them with the filter going!   You have to invest in a good one though, the small, cheap ones don't do much.

I guess your WAS working if it got super dirty!

When I ran ours, I never had to dust either.

  • We have an Austin Air Healthmate.  I closed it into our bedroom for a whole day (to keep the dog out) and when I opened the door, it smelled so fresh and clean in there.  That is saying a lot, b/c the sheets needed to be washed, etc.  The con online is always about the noise.  I don't mind the hum.  They recommend putting it in your bedroom since you breathe in that air most.

We have a cat and a dog.  I don't know if there is less fur flying around or if I just want there to be (I had to fight to get this, so I wanted it to be an awesome purchase).
