My take: I actually loved all 3 collections. For the first time ever, I honestly thought they all rocked the runway show.
Kenley's was my favorite from a "wearable" standpoint--I would love to wear so many of those pieces. I also don't think it's accurate to call her a "copycat" for handpainting pieces, just because another designer has done it--IMO it'a an amzaing way to convey what's in your head. Also, while her attitude needs some work, I have to respect that she is so committed to her vision.
Korto--I loved, loved, loved how clear her inspiration was without being costumey in any way. I didn't think it was overworked at all, and I loved the white pants and top.
Leanne's I expected to hate, as I wasn't a fan of the colors. I was really surprised when it came down the runway, though. Those clothes moved beautifully, and the colors, while very literal, totally conveyed "beach". Honestly, though, I think what put her over the top was the "green" concept of it all--it's trendy (and I don't mean it in a "oh, screw the environment, it's just a trend" way--regardless of reason, it's very much the thing to do.)
Re: PR (SPOILERS!!!!)
Ditto I loved all three, but Korto's green dress is the one I want the most for my personal closet. I didn't really care too much who won and that is rare--usually I have a strong opinion about the finale.
Loved that Tim Gunn got to guest judge when JLo didn't show!
Re: "sustainable fabric" - I get that that sounds all green and awesome, but what does it mean? Aren't all natural fabrics inherently sustainable?
Deductive reasoning isn't a conservative or liberal attribute. ~epphd
Yes! I truly liked all three collections, but for different reasons.
I thought Kenley's was the most creative and innovative.
I thought Korto's was the most wearable (also llllloved the white pants/blouse), although the green dress was lovely, the halter portion had me all befuddled; it looked like it needed two heads!
I thought Leanne's was constructed beautifully but that after the 4th petal outfit I was beginning to get bored.
All in all, I probably would have picked Korto as the winner b/c on the whole I like her pieces best. But really, they all did a phenomenal job and I would have been happy with any of them.
A great episode! But go Oregon!!!!
My personal preference was Kenley's collection. Her pieces were fun and girly, which is what I like.
Korto had some cool designs, but I didn't like all the khaki.
I can understand why Leanne won. As the judges said, her designs were original and the collection was the most sophisticated. I especially liked the teal dress with the sweetheart neckline that her PR model wore.
Did anyone else notice the former ANTM contestants at the model audition? I counted at least two.
I'm so happy that Leanne won! I thought that Kenley did a good job, but frankly some of her outfits were hideous, and she's a big ol' whiner. I loved Korto's collection, and honestly, if she had won I would have been very excited. Her clothing is beautiful and elegant and unique. I do love Leanne's style though, and the architectural, slightly nerdy aspect really appeals to me
I agree that it was a very good runway show though, and all three designers will enjoy successful careers!
Oh, and I did notice Shannon, from the bravo modeling program (forgot what it's called), but I do not think she was selected for the runway show...

In general I like Kenley's stuff, but hers didn't feel like a cohesive show to me, at least compared to the others. Korto's was beautiful and definitely wearable. I think she'll go far. I wasn't sure who was going to win at the end, I could see it going any of the three ways.
But Leanne's collection totally was a head turner to me. I mean, we all knew some of the pieces that were going to go down that runway, but man, I agree with the judges - that first outfit totally grabbed me. I thought it was a beautiful collection - love, love, love the pants! I'm so glad she didn't cut them.
I do agree that the fact she used sustainable fabrics probably pushed her over, but not so much that it's trendy, but that seems to be a priority for Project Runway. I mean, it may be a priority because it's trendy, but they give away a hybrid car, they do challenges with sustainable fabrics, etc. Which makes a designer who does that on her own a good representation of the show.
Oh, and my friend told me Tim Gunn was the surprise judge back during fashion week.
(Same friend who is the friend of a friend of Leanne)
I'll tackle your second question first. Natural fibers come from plants or animals, and man-made fibers are, for the most part, either plant (cellulosic) based or petroleum based (an exception would be glass, which is synthetic but neither plant nor petroleum based).
Natural fibers from plants (flax and cotton) are great and extremely useful. The question environmentally has to do with pesticides (which is why we should be able to grow hemp, but moving on....).
Animal fibers include silk (which I'm guessing PETA objects to because you kill the worm, actually a caterpillar, in order to get the silk) and wool/cashmere/etc. Wool is fan-freakin-tastic. I'm sure there are probably some environmental objections (maybe the pesticides used on the food fed to the sheep & goats??), but I think they'd be pretty far-fetched.
Next you have the cellulosic man-made fibers. This includes rayon, acetate, and lyocell. Not sure what the downsides are to these - maybe in the actual making of the fibers (the solvent)?
Lastly there are the petroleum based man-made fibers (synthetics). Here you have polyester, nylon, spandex, etc. These are often fabulous materials to use b/c they don't wrinkle, they're mildew resistant, etc. But clearly the petroleum base is a problem b/c oil prices are going up, and it's a non-renewable resource.
SO, if you want something that does what polyester does, you use a sustainable fabric, made from either recycled plastic bottles or perhaps old polyester? Would look more into it, but I've gotta run! ttys
I totally agree with all of these. I liked a few of Kenley's pieces (like the cute ivory dress with the design painted on the front). However, that wedding dress was a direct ripoff of Alexander McQueen's two dresses, as the judges said. I think Kenley is full of it, saying she doesn't pay attention. If you've dreamed your entire life of being in a certain industry, you pay attention to what's going on. Yes, she's creative and fun, but don't tell me you aren't up on the fashion industry. She's a liar, and she's a petulant whiner. If she puts up anothoer collection where she's copying people outright, as the judges believed, she won't get very far.
Korto. Love love love. I was sad she didn't win. I thought her collection was fabulous.
And agree totally on the Leanne/nerdiness factor. Love her as well, but her stuff doesn't grab me in the way Korto's does.
I liked Kenley's the best, but I'm glad she didn't win because of her giant stinking attitude. Everyone's collection was good, though, and I'll bet it was a hard decision for the judges.
I liked Leanne's pieces a lot but got sick of seeing the petals/waves.
I liked korto's a lot! I think she should have won. I love leanne's though too but everything single thing had those freakin petal/bubble things and it seemed kinda "matchy matchy" like she couldn't get out of the petal rut? true though that hers was the more sophisticated.
Question: were they supposed to use the wedding dress they made eariler or were they just allowed to of they wanted too? I missed that part and was surprised to see those turn up in the final collection.
I wanted Korto to win. I loved her collection.
I agree that Leanne's was the most sophisticated and well constructed, and it did look fabulous on the runway, but I was bored with the petals and the colors. It was a beautiful collection but it did seem kind of one note.
Kenley had some neat stuff, but her taste is NMS. And she's super annoying and everything she does is a knock off. Her whole sense of style is very Betsey Johnson to me, and her attitude is the worst.
I was surprised by how much I liked Kenley's collection, but she's still a whiny brat.
I'm torn about Kenley's collection, I liked some pieces (loved the green shirt with the huge ruffle neckline a la Yves St. Laurent) and others I had to give the sideways face (the green dress with the big poofy shoulders).
As far as Korto, it was nice, but too boring of a color palette. She needed may just one more color in it.
Leanne was great, but also a boring color palette, however her construction is so amazing, it makes up for all.
