Hi Ladies, at the risk of sounding like an ungrateful and spoiled b*tch, I will rant about the gifts that DH brought yesterday from Atlanta.
So, DH went to ATL for two weeks, came back last night and brought in 4 gift boxes from someone... I am saying someone because there was no card, or anything with them. When we started opening them, we realised that they are NOT from our registry. They are all from Southern Living at Home, that doesn't have stores, but consultants.
Now, we live in New York. For those of you who had the pleasure, you know that apartments here are SMALL. There is no space for extra ginormous stuff. The gifts that we received are:
1. huge ugly grey and flower patterned bowl for... I dunno, you can wash an infant in it.
2. second huge gigantor chips bowl with another smaller one for a dip... the thing is, they are big enough to feed a party of 50 with the dip and chips.
3. a set of three plastic bowls that have a rubber base - an exact copy of what was on my registy and got purchased... hence, no need for them
4. a caserole holder??? it's rectangular, and our caserole is round because that shape was easier to pack with other pots and pans in our small kitchen cabinets.
I hate complaining about gifts, but registries exist for a reason. I emailed MIL today to ask who even gave us this stuff, as there was no card, and she told me... no surprise. The same couple got us a 7 quart stainless steel bown for our engagement. That one was from BBB and we returned it because we do not need such a huge dish, and the bowls that we picked for our registry were already enough.
I just wonder - what makes people senselessly spend money in this bad economy on gifts? We had a registry. They are BFFs with MIL, why not ask. Why spend money on something that I had to put back in the boxes and shove under the bed, till I either sell, exchage or gift them to someone else?
Tell me about the gifts that surprised you!
Re: Gift rant -a little long
Maybe she regifted them. Or maybe she was a consultant and wanted the commission. Or maybe she went to a stupid party that we as women get guilted into going to and don't know what to buy and figured she would buy you something.
Either way, it is dumb. I agree.
I went to a party like that once... Pampered Chef. They had a lot of cool stuff, but I was like a super broke student. The girl who threw it was like: if we spend $500 today here, I will get an awesome pan, or something that she wanted. She said it would be like her shower gift from us. I felt guilty and got something that I did not have a chance to use yet. She postponed her shower, and then cancelled her wedding... so I got the stuff for no reason at all!
