State Fair

Whose ready?!

What is the one ride that you LOVE and try to ride? I say try. . because it can be hard to get to the fair, can be costly, and also. . sometimes those lines aren't worth it. . .

What is your favorite treat there?

If you don't go for the rides, what do you go for?

I LOVE the farris wheel. The really big one. I love to ride up to the top and just look out over everything :o) I also love funnel cakes, but Im very picky about them.  I like them fresh with a little crunch. No soggy funnel cakes for me. I also like them with fresh warm cherries :o)

I also really enjoy looking at the contests that go on during the fair. As well as checking out all of the farm animals!

Alright... your turn!

Re: State Fair

  • I don't think we are going to go this year, but we did go last year. I enjoy the apple cider slushie. I also like the contests, especially the photography exhibit and the cakes. It is also a good people watching experience.

They had Apply Cider Slushie?! Oh man!

We didn't go last year either, but our schedules were VERY wonky and we just lost track of time. We're hoping to go this year. I think we'll be heading up with our neighbors :o)

  • I was just thinking about the State Fair this morning. DH and I are going to attempt a low carb diet in October so I figured one day at the State Fair will be a good cheat day.

We don't do any of the rides... just walk around and eat.

Must have's.... ham biscuit from Cary Meredith Church, funnel cake, caramel apple (to take home), and cotton candy (also to take home).

  • I haven't ever been to a state fair.  Growing up, we'd have volunteer Fireman's Fairs (the fundraiser for the FDs in our area) that sound similar.  I always spent way too much money because I love rides, though the Ferris Wheel was always the one I avoided--it freaked me out--especially when they'd stop me at the top!  (I'm the one that's gone sky diving and still has a strange fear of heights).

I'm also a sucker for things fried and sweet (great combination, right?)  so I could pretty much gain 10-15 lbs on a good night stuffing my face full of all that delicious stuff.  Since I'm usually a pretty good eater when I have control of what is offered.

  • I've never been and it isn't looking like we'll be getting there this year. Embarrassed But I'm thinking it might be a good thing for the diet!
  • I think I'm the only one that doesn't think the fair is the best thing since sliced bread.  Fair rides are kind of creepy to me, just the fact that they are always being set up/torn down.  And the food isn't really my thing either. Next time we go, though, we need to do a better job at looking at the events going on and make sure there are things we are interested in b/c that aspect is fun to me.
  • I'm with Terp. The fair just isn't my thing. We went once the year we moved here & that was enough for me. I think I'd like it more if there was alcohol involved. :-)
  • We have never been but are planning on going. We moved from the Northeast and we have never been to a state fair so we are really excited! What can we expect?

I do not remember the exact name, but it is really good. I believe it is in the village of yesteryear area.

If any wants to get in for "free", Oct 21 is Food Lion Hunger Relief Day where the accept 4 cans of food lion canned goods in exchange for free admission.

  • I am somewhat obsessed with the fair..... we had our engagement photos done there, then did day after photos there..... and this year we are shooting a family there! I'm also entering their photo contest :-) I'm super excited!!!
