Favorite way to organize?

Hello! I'm looking for some suggestions on how to organize! I'm big on everything has it's place and use plastic bins to do this...but thought some of you may have some creative ideas for organizing! I'm a very visual person (I don't even use a dresser, all my clothes are hanging so I can see them)

Also, if there are any web sites that you frequent for ideas?! Any suggestions will be warmly accepted lol. TIA!

Re: Favorite way to organize?

  • I'm crazy about bins and shelves, creates so much space.  Our pantry is filled with plastic bins that hold the food (that way stuff doesn't get lost in the back).  Our playroom closet had just 1 shelf at the top of one wall, DH added a total of 7 or 8 and we're able to put all of our toys in there.  We have shelves in the garage that hold the car wash supplies.  Our bathroom closets/linen closets are covered in bins that hold our towels, toiletries, etc.  With all of the baby junk, it's hard to keep everything organized (since there's so much big stuff that can't really be put away), but we try.
  • when i lived in the states i really liked the way i had my pantry organized. I kept separate plastic bins for baking items, snacks and sauces (soy sauce, vinegar...), a drawer for spices. I put cereal in see-through, stay fresh containers. I had a small plastic drawers things for packets (1 drawer for kool-aid, one for gravy mixes or taco seasoning, and one for sweet stuff... don't remember what was in there exactly). I had lazy susans. One was for items like canned beans and canned soups, one for jarred spaghetti, canned tomatoes and canned corn, and one for sandwich fixins (peanut butter, tuna fish). And I had one shelf devoted to breakfast, one for lunch, and one for dinner.

i don't keep it organized the same way here because i've stocked up on items from the US and have less room overall. But, it's somewhat similar. I make more things from scratch so my lazy susans are mostly seasoning items.

Otherwise my big organizing tool is not buying a lot of crap. Or a lot of much at all. We have the basics for the baby. We got rid of a lot of our books when we got here and bought kindles. I don't buy clothes unless I get rid of something because we don't have the space for more than what we have. I keep all my travel related items in a backpack that I usually use when I travel. I try to keep like items together as much as possible, but there are things that could easily be used in several places, so I have them in several places. I keep pens in the kitchen, in the living room and on the desk. I keep most cookbooks on my bookshelf, but the ones I refer to the most, I keep in the kitchen. I write my favorite recipes on index cards and keep them in a small photo album in the kitchen.

I'm a big fan of labels and boxes. I'm not as organized as I'd like to be, but I'm getting there slowly.

  • I love the exepdits from Ikea with baskets and have one in DSs room and in basement for organizing toys, books, etc for the kids.  In their rooms and in the linen closet we have the over the door shoe holders that we have bolted on the door and store all the little things little kids have (socks, hats, gloves, shoes, slippers, hair things etc) and this works really well for us.  In the linen closet the shoe holder holds all the little things that usually get lost in  the linen clost (the manicure set, tooth brush, tooth paste, extra soap, etc.).
