Didn't get those closets cleaned last weekend!

Crying

What do you do.....

I feel overwhelmed....

I want/need to do a deep cleaning.

HAVE to clean out closets and get rid of alot of stuff.  We have too much crap in our small home.

I HAVE to tear down wallpaper in my 1/2 bath, back doorway, kitchen, and hallway.

I have so many things that need to be done, I feel so overwhelmed, that I am not even doing any of them.

Won't have anyone to help either.... so stressed out.

How do you tackle this?  I could cry.

Re: Didn't get those closets cleaned last weekend!

  • The best way to do it is just to start.  Even if you set aside 15 minutes a day to get started it might help.
  • First, block time and commit to it.  Don't have the tv on or any other usual distractions.

Have a plan, make it time bound, and give yourself breaks. Use a timer.  ("I'm going to start on this closet and work straight for 30 minutes and then take a 5 minute break and then get back to it")

Have the tools you need and the space to work all ready before you start.

    The closet:

Take EVERYTHING OUT.  Put into piles that get at whatever you're trying to do -- get rid of things? swap seasons? Keep it all, but organize by type?

Try on stuff. Have a pile ready to go for things that get donated -- put it directly in a bag to leave the house.

Things you haven't worn in a year?  Put it straight in a bag. You don't love it enough to exchange valuable space for it.

When you're done, put it all back. Don't leave that task for an unnamed time...  you'll lose the great momentum.

Honestly, any closet that isn't a massive walk in closet can probably be tackled completely in one dedicated session of 3 hours or less if you're committed to having real discipline about getting rid of things.

    The wallpaper removal:

Even if you committed 30 minutes a night for a week on this project, you would make significant progress in a week!  You'll be surprised how easily you may even talk yourself into adding a few more minutes, maybe even do a full hour, once you get started.

You can do this -- just focus, manage your time,  and reward yourself for a job done well!

  • Thank you so much for your help.

Suppose to rain all day tomorrow, so I think that will be the perfect day to get started on those closets!  : )
