I'm sorry that I keep loading the board up with updates on my family. I hope you all will understand that I don't live anywhere near my family. I talk to H, but sometimes I need to vent when we're both at work.
So, here's the latest update:
My SIL is going to have a double mastectomy in the next week or so. They told her that they only have to do 1 now, but will most likely have to do the other one later, so she told them to just do them both at the same time. She will then have to go through 7 weeks of chemo. They are having to use some new drugs on her, because they said new old ones are made for women who are post-menopausal, and she's only 32. Because of this, she will also have to have a historectomy in the next couple years as well. She told my mom she was thankful that God blessed them with 4 children early in their marriage so she doesn't have to worry about that now. Her mom and siblings are swapping off weeks during the next 7 weeks to go down and take care of the kids, and my mom will be going down the week before and the week after Thanksgiving.
My grandfather is basically not eating. It makes him sick every time he tries. My mom is flying up there this weekend to spend 3 weeks taking care of him and grandma. Poor grandpa is exhausted from being sick and taking care of a wife with Altzheimer's.
And finally, I got a call from my mom yesterday that her uncle (who is only in his late 60s) had a heart attack. They transferred him from the small hospital in his town to a bigger one by where my grandparents live. He is in ICU and is having surgery today to do 5 bypasses. He is in grave condition, and no one is quite sure what is going to happen.
On top of all this serious stuff, I ended up at the doc yesterday too! I found out that what I thought had been allergies for the last week is a sinus infection. Because I've been ignoring it for the last week, it's now severe, and I'm on antibiotics for the next 10 days. Oh joy!
Anyway, sorry again for being a pain, but I appreciate all the support you've been giving me!
Re: I don't mean to keep boring you with updates, but this just keeps getting worse...
You are not a pain!! Vent away!
I am so sorry your family is dealing with so much. My thoughts and prayers go out to you all. Vent on here as much as you need to.
Vent away!
I'm with SIL - why have a uni-boob if they are just going to take it later? In my family, someone would be buying her a Maddona cone bra - I realize some might find that in bad taste but laughter is the best medicine and our family jokes like that. Sounds like a good support system is in place for SIL.
I hope your GP and Uncle(?) are feeling better soon. Your poor Mom is gonna need a break.
lol I've heard rumors that her sister might be doing just that! And if she doesn't, that so sounds like something my one aunt would do! I guess our family and yours is just alike then.
I like your updates.
I'm also wishing your family the best possible outcomes. Keep posting.
Keeping your family in my thoughts.
Is your grandfather sick with anything that could get him a medical marijuana prescription? I've heard for people whose illnesses/treatment make them unable to eat, this works wonders. Maybe something to check out for him?
And if posting here helps relieve some of your stress, by all means, do it!
Grandpa has pancreatic cancer. They are still working on a plan of attack for him (the first biopsy wasn't able to get a big enough sample, so they have to do another), but they did give him a new medicine Friday afternoon. It's supposed to clear the acid out of his stomach (main reason he can't eat is because he has severe stomach pain). They are hoping that after that does it's job, he'll feel well enough to start eating at least a little bit.
Thank you all for the support! We have a very large family, but sometimes it's nice to know that even strangers care about your problems. Of course, you guys aren't so much strangers anymore. You care about my problems, so you are practically family!
