Has anyone watched? I caught two episodes, and if you haven't seen it, let me give you a rundown:
Couple in Texas have 6 year old daughter and 1ish year old quintuplets. They are trying to sell their McMansion because they can't afford it with their mounting bills due to raising so many babies at once. Husband freely admits that when they bought the house, they could not afford it (
but were hoping to flip it in the next few years. Then, surprise! they have quints. Then, surprise! his business takes a nosedive and their income drops dramatically. They are able to sell their McMansion, but have to move out in a month and dont have anywhere to go. So they go looking for homes, which they later admit were ALSO OUT OF THEIR PRICE RANGE, but they were making offers on them anyway, because 3,000 square feet is "too small". The episodes go on and on about their expenses, how much they spend a month of insurance, diapers, etc. and how they basically aren't making it. Then they run off to buy a puppy, from a breeder, which I'm sure wasn't cheap.
Sidenotes: The wife is way too chipper. It all seems really....forced, given their situation. And the producers love to show clip after clip after CLIP of all 5 babies screaming/crying at once.
What.A.Trainwreck.
Re: Quints By Surprise on TLC
Meh, he is a contractor and his income fluctuates with the economy. Last year was a big drop in income, but I am sure that could be said about builders across the nation. At least they had the good sense to downsize before the bank had to downsize for them. If I had 6 kids on my "baby farm", I would think 3k sq ft was small too. LOL (Disclaimer...I have no kids). I give them credit, they seem like they are trying to stay positive, I think they DID end up buying a house they could afford within their price range.
I thought getting a dog was nuts, and driving 4 hours in the car to visit it ahead of time was even more unneccesary in the midst of a move. I am sure Austin has plenty of shelter puppies, but whatever.
I felt the same way until thet admitted they bought a house they could not afford in the first place, and since his income DOES fluctuate so much, I thought that was incredibly stupid on their part. I understand they need something with room since they have so many kids, but they went on and on about how dire their circumstances were. The needed to downsize a LOT, not a little, until they were in better financial shape. You can raise 6 kids in a 2,000 (or gasp! smaller) if you absolutely have to, at least for a short amount of time until you get back on your feet.
I watch it, they kinda stress me out. I can understand that wanting to flip the house in a few years- the TX market was hot and then it just ran out of gas. He's a contractor so that's pretty common- they build specs live in them and then sell them.
I don't get it either about the puppy- Im sure it was not cheap, and who would want to drive all that way with 5 screaming babies! The wife drives me nuts, she's complaining about money- but then she is still carrying her Louis Vuitton bag.
I am really tired of the "we wanted just one more child and we ended up with 5 or 6" it's like why arent people ever just happy with what they have. Their oldest daughter was concieved through fertility treatments, so they knew the risk of multiples was there when they did it again and had 5. As someone who went through fertility treatments- I would never tempt fate again- be happy with your family the way it is!
I was at the hospital (my dh was there for a week) when they brought the last little one home.
My thoughts (having never seen it): I don't understand the title at all. Surprise quints...after fertility treatments? Umm...not so much a surprise.
A girl on our local went to HS w/ the mom and she swears up and down that they are great people w/ great intentions. However, they left a very sour taste in my mouth when (before the kids were born), they created a website and asked for gifts including (but not limited to); car seats, cribs (new), and...wait for it...a new car. They also had a manager before the kids were born and were wanting to get on a show. On top of that, a local university (Baylor) paid for him to go back to school.
This is part of my problem with them. I couldn't help but wonder if they were looking for handouts. I've only watched the two episodes, so i can't say for sure since I don't know their story other than what was presented on the two shows. The fact that the were refusing to rent, and were still looking at homes out of their price range, tells me they are not willing to do what needs to be done in order to get their heads above water. They are either the most financially irresponsible people out there, or they are looking for some help to keep up their lifestyle.
The fact that she mentioned she did not want to rent really irked me. They could not qualify for a loan and had to ask one of their parents to co-sign, but God forbid they should rent for a while until they get back on their feet.
What's your point?
I'm assuming she's probably had it for a while so why not carry it? I've had one of their bags for probably close to 10 years and I still carry it. I don't know why that is a big deal just b/c she's complaining about money. She may have had the money 5 years ago, but she doesn't now. Wouldn't it be dumber to spend money on a new purse rather than sticking with what you have?
I have my opinions on this show and the couple, but either way, I don't really see the problem with the above.
I understand that bags are an investment- I have had some of my LV for a long time-I was not making a point- it was mearly an observation.
