Dollar dances

I didn't have one at my wedding nor have I ever been to a wedding that had them, so maybe I am crazy here but there is a girl on F&B complaining that her DJ didn't play the 15 songs she requested for the dollar dance.

That sounds like a hella lot of songs to me?  Is that an insane amount or is that normal?

Re: Dollar dances

  • I didn't do one because we forgot to buy the pins. I've always seen it with one song and both bride and groom dance with the guest and have dollars pined on them.

  • i didn't do one either and i've never seen one done (although, you just reminded me that the wedding i was in last weekend was supposed to have one and they didn't... hmm). but anyway, i think 15 songs seems quite ridiculous.

  • 15 songs is a ton.  That's got to last freaking forever.  Like, that's probably damn near an hour of dollar dance.  Good grief.

I've seen it done a couple times, although I'm truly not a fan because there's no way to do it that isn't completely boring.  I've always seen the BM/MOH collect the money before you take a 30 second turn dancing with them, never pinned on their clothes.

  • Wow!! Yeah, 15 songs IS about an hour (or more), which I would be dreadfully bored as a guest watching that for the longest time!

Oh, and the only time I have seen the dollar dance at a wedding was in Hungary, at a wedding of a friend of my family in Hungary. It's a very traditional thing there and most weddings have it. But it's actually seen more as "Yes, it's MY chance to hang out with the bride for a couple minutes!", and not the greedy aspects of it! But in the US, don't believe I've seen it.

  • I've seen it done several times. Usually it lasts as long as there are people still standing there willing to play. I dont think I've ever seen it last longer than 2 songs.

  • I've seen them last up to 5 songs... and let me tell you, I'm bored out of my mind by the end of the 1st one.  That's one of the (many) reasons we didn't do one.

  • I've never been to a wedding where they had one, but I'd probably be ready to slap a broad if one lasted for 15 songs.

  • We did do a dollar dance, but I think it was only a few songs. It didn't last long at all. 15 is way too much.
