I'm so lonely!

So today is the first day of my new job and today im at a family practice office. Well, all I doing today isbeing secluded in a little office and giving flu shots. So the supervisor comes around and says, I'll come get youfor lunch, you can take it around 12:15-1:15. She never cam and got me. The whole, huge office was pretty much empty!! So I ask the lady at the front desk she saidusually the flu shot ppl go from 12-1 when the clinic is closed. So I didn't leave my area till 12:45 so after that I have an hour to kill! Now I'm eating lunch alone, nesting and texting Adam. Plus nesting is hard to do from my phone because I haveto do the HTML editor thing. So lonely. :(

  • Other than that, how are you liking the new job?

  • It's okay. I hadn't really had any experience with the computer programs I am using, in fact I am dreading going back bc I am not sure of the log on info for this lap top I'm using to document! The people I've met are pretty nice though. And really all I'm doing is giving flu shots and I'm getting paid $33/hr. I'll take it. ;)

  • Aww...I'm sorry. I got my flu shot today at work and I got an awesome Snoopy band aid :) I'm pretty excited about it
  • We don't have snoopy band-aids!! I think that could make it a little better :)

  • You'll get the hang of it.  It's only the first day!!

Thanks for the reminder though.... I need to get my flu shot!

  • Fun bandaids make it totally worth it.  I am NOT good with needles.

Remember when I was at the doctor a few weeks ago?  She was giving me the full physical and I was doing great, laughing and joking with her.  After I was fully dressed she was like "Oh yeah, I'm just going to prick your finger and test your blood sugar"  I've never had that done before.  I panicked a little and was like "Is it going to hurt??"  She honestly gave me side-eye and was like...it's a finger prick, you'll be fine.  I cried a little.

They don't bother me at all either. Then again I've never had to have a huge needle stuck in me like an epidermal or something but yeah shots don't bother me at all.

  • I think at this point, the only needle that would bother me is a bone marrow core needle. Those are vicious.

    Ick!  no bueno....that sounds vicious

  • I'll cut you some slack on the finger prick crying, J, cause those do hurt. All the nerve endings are in your fingertips and makes for a huge owwie!! Occasionally we have patients on insulin drips at the hospital an they have to be pricked every hour!!

  • I like to watch them give shots... and I think it makes people nervous when I don't turn away when they're putting an IV in my arm.  I used to volunteer to give my buddy in college his insulin shots when I was drunk.  It was fun!  Plus, all the piercings I'd gotten over the years got me pretty used to needles

  • Though if I had to have a bone marrow biopsy, I'd have bigger things to worry about than the biopsy needle.
. Stu, I have to watch them too. I can't NOT watch someone stick me.

  • My veins are often very hard to find, and I grew up getting weekly allergy shots, and I was into piercings back in the day. The only thing that bugs me is when donating or drawing large amounts of blood... the longer the needle is in there the more I freak out!! But for the actual insertion, I'm not even phased.

  • I would have no problem being lonely for $33/hr.  I wouldn't mind a lot of things for that.

At the Dr.'s on Wednesday they asked if I wanted a flu shot.  I refused.  The last time I went they wanted me to update my tetanus shot.  I refused that too.  I don't like needles...not at all!

  • Ugh I'm not a huge fan of needles...but I work in the health care field, I have to get tested for TB every year, get flu shots, etc. Just gotta suck it up I guess!

  • Yes, I don't mind being lonely for that price. I'll be doing it Monday, Tuesday and Thurs of next week too. It's a nice change from the busy inpatient setting. On the other side, it seems I am getting paid to nest!! But shhh, don't tell!!

When I went to orientation for this job I got my tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine. My arm hurt for literally a week. Will prob get the flu vaccine soon, because either one of the hospitals I work for will make me!

  • Did I mention I'm working in a very small room (read: closet) that is incredibly warm!?! I've given 4 shots in the past 1.25 hours.

stu, what's wrong with your blood?

When I refused my tetanus I said I have to do a lot of lifting for work so I couldn't have my arm hurting.  They suggested I get it in my butt.  I told them there was no way a needle was going anywhere near my butt.  NO WAY!

I'm just on the "can't donate" list because I lived in Germany on a military base for more than 6 months during a certain time frame.  Something about possibly being able to carry on Variant Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease... I think something related to Mad Cow???  MOOOOOOOOO!

When I got bitten by a spider back in college, they had to give me a shot in the buttcheek... Unfortunately, the nurse didn't tell me that it was going to make my whole leg go numb and not be able to walk for 30 minutes... whoreface.  I almost hit the floor.  And then she was like "oh yeah.... you won't be able to walk."  Thanks biotch.... I'm pretty sure I already figured that out.

hahaha... this is actually what the red cross website says:

In some parts of the world, cattle can get an infectious, fatal brain disease called Mad Cow Disease. In these same locations, humans have started to get a new disease called variant Creutzfeld-Jacob Disease (vCJD) which is also a fatal brain disease. Scientists believe that vCJD is Mad Cow Disease that has somehow transferred to humans, possibly through the food chain.

There is now evidence from a small number of case reports involving patients and laboratory animal studies that vCJD can be transmitted through transfusion. There is no test for vCJD in humans that could be used to screen blood donors and to protect the blood supply. This means that blood programs must take special precautions to keep vCJD out of the blood supply by avoiding collections from those who have been where this disease is found.

  • I remember having to answer all sorts of crazy questions like that when I donated plasma in college.

"Have you ever had sex with a man who lived in Germany from 19xx-19xx"....um no. "Have you ever had sex with a man who had sex with a man who lived in Germany from 19xx-19xx"....um no! "do you use herion"...no. It was like 3 pages of crazy questions like that but hey I had to feed my taco bell obsession some how

  • "Have you ever exchanged sex for drugs?"  That was one of the questions I got when I gave blood in high school... my friends and I were CRACKING UP!!

  • Needles don't bother me at all.  Shots, IVs, Blood Draws, it's whatev.

I also have NEVER gotten a flu shot in my life.  And I got the flu for the very first time at the beginning of last year.  Never getting a flu shot and not having the flu for 24 years... I'll take my chances instead of pumping myself full of the flu just so it will be "less severe" if I do get it this year.

  • Never had a flu shot either and I'm 23.  Haven't had the flu yet (that I know of), knock on wood.  Seems like everyone has really yucky symptoms when they get the shot, and some people STILL get the flu after they've had the shot.  Silly.
