My husband thinks I dress like a 13 yr old....

So this morning I'm getting ready for work.  I'm already dressed and everything.  Adam comes in the bathroom and totally gives me the side eye.  He was like "so are you 13 again?"  Yeah, so my shirt says "First Place at Being Awesome"...  what??

  • HA!  Awesome.  I have nothing else to add here.

  • Yeah, there wasn't really a point to that story.  I happen to love this shirt (that I got on clearance for 4 bucks!!).  He also finds it humorous that I wear little boys t-shirts.  Last time we went to visit his brother, SIL showed me a shirt that her mom had bought for my nephew (he's 10)... she said that she thought the shirt was a little girly and said "Your Aunt Sara could probably wear this".  I can and do.

  • Hey enjoy it while you can! I am told I dress like a mom a cool mom but just a mom! I am cool with it! I love my Khaki capris and my oversized dress shirts.
  • I have no idea what my dress style is.  I think it's pretty classic, in that I can wear something that I bought four years ago and it doesn't look out of style.  I'm not trendy in the slightest.

  • I'm not trendy at all.  I wear jeans... and t-shirts... and sundresses.... stuff that doesn't ever really go out of style

If I ever start dressing like my mom, someone better shoot me.

  • If I start dressing the way my mom did when we were growing up, someone can shoot me.  She spent all her money on us and none on herself, so I swear to god she looked like a homeless lady.

Now?  I would totally wear her clothes.  She is really stylish, and I in fact tried to steal one of her sweaters yesterday.  (It was brand new and she told me I could have it, but I felt guilty since she just bought it and wouldn't take it).

  • Haha I recently started buying "big kid" clothes as I call them. I used to wear jeans, t shirts and hoodies constantly, mostly Volcom brand, or pretty much anything from PacSun. I dress more like a young adult now than a highschooler, but still not super trendy.

  • i want your shirt, stu.

i always buy "little kid" shirts from touristy places...they are cheaper and cuter. haha

  • I'm glad I'm not alone! I usually avoid 'lady' clothes when I go shopping. I don't know what a 26/27 year old is supposed to wear. I told my mom and DH in the last month that I have officially decided I'm never going to own a suit.
  • I still shop in the juniors department at stores.  Embarrassed  All the time.

I have to. As in, I don't have a choice unless the store is out of my price range. JCPenney, Macy's, Target, etc. don't carry grown-up clothes for people this small. It sucks.

  • I am 35 and shop in the juniors section.  I feel like most stores have "old ladies" and "juniors" sections, nothing in between.  I bought a dress for the rehearsal dinner at Kohls in the juniors section.  Later I was on FB and saw a friends daughter (high school age) wearing the same dress!  I still think it looked better on me, LOL!
  • How tall are you, Kelly?

    I'm 5 feet, 2 3/4 inches tall. But I'm a size 2, and most stores only carry lady-clothes down to a 6 or maybe a 4.

I try to get stuff off the clearance racks at The Limited, but that's the only store in the area that carries grown-up stuff in my size now that B. Moss closed. :(

ETA: Target technically has size 2's, but they've inflated their sizes to the point that most of those are way too big for me. A few years ago their 2's fit me fine, and I certainly haven't lost weight.

  • Ha, you're the same height as my mom. I make fun of her for being so short.  Haha, sorry!!  Could you possibly look in "petite" sections (do they still even have those?)?  I wouldn't even know what size I am in women's clothing.  I wear a size 7 jeans in juniors though, but those are feeling a little loose right now.  I'm also 5'7" (Adam measured me the other night when we were drunk and he insists that I'm 5'6" and 3/4.... dude, just say 5'7")

  • Yeah, they do still have petite sections, but they proportion the clothes differently and I'm not shaped like "petite" clothes. Even though I fall into the height guidelines for petites, the pants and sleeves are always too short. I guess they think that short people are all sort of stumpy. Hmm I'm just a scaled-down normal person.

  • I wish I could shop in the juniors section!! Im tall and wide, which makes for very hard shopping. NY&co shirts fit me, but not the pants, lane Bryant is a little too big or is shaped funny (even though I can wear their shirts). I tend to buy my pants at old navy, they've had some cute ones recently. Shopping is usually my nemesis.

My mom IS short and stumpy though, so maybe that's why she shops that department!!!  haha

  • yeah the tall end of the clothing spectrum sucks too, haha.

every time i find a cute dress, it barely comes past my crotch. not socially acceptable!  and jeans shopping is horrifying because things that fit me in the waist are way too short, and vice versa. rar.

  • Stu, your shirt sounds awesome.  One of my favorites says "I may not be perfect, but parts of me are pretty awesome."  I can't wear it in public anymore because I've worn it so much it looks like crap.  But I still love it.

My mom dresses well, so I wouldn't mind dressing like her someday.  My brother and I gave her a list of things she isn't allowed to buy.  But she would probably do just fine without our help.

  • I just want you guys to know I am not rocking the MOM Jeans or anything lol! Its what their mom wears which is I kinda like the 50's style of dress with a pony tail and they would have called them peddle pushers lol I love hoodies and comfy clothes and bootcut jeans if this 39 year old fluffy woman put on skinny jeans you should take me out and shoot me now. No one needs to see this axx in skinny anything. The amount of muffin top would be going for a world record or something!!!

  • I also don't own skinny jeans.  I have decided they don't look good on pear shaped girls.

    /gavel

I am fairly certain that I don't own any tshirts with writing on them though either.  I had a shirt that I used to wear when I was blonde that said something like "I love being blond"  And then my sister pointed out to me that not only was "blonde" spelled wrong, but the writing wasn't on the tshirt straight.  I tried to tell her that the shirt was ironic but couldn't pull it off and had to stop wearing it.

Dave has a few shirts that have silly things on them though.  His current fave is one that says "I found Jesus.  He was behind the couch"

  • I don't think I own anything with writing on it either... anymore.  Unless its like a t-shirt from a concert or somewhere I've been (i.e. Jackson Hole).  I used to have a few from Urban Outfitters.

I'm short (5'3" - 5'4" on a good day) AND I have a big butt and huge boobs.  Clothes generally hate me.  And I can't stand clothing to be tight on my boobs (unless its like a strapless dress or something).  That being said... I actually like shopping most of the time.  I'm a big Nordstrom shopper.  And J.Crew (doesn't hurt to have a discount there, too =D)

Jeans are the hardest to fit.  But Gap has a few that fit me well.  And Lucky Brand (when I can get them on SALE).  I recently found a pair that were originally $158 and they were on sale with an additional percent off... I got them for $30!!!  I never ever find good deals and I'm a HORRIBLE sale shopper so this made me very happy.

My daily wardrobe consists of jeans, boyfriend style v neck ts and cardigans.  Usually with flip flops or TOMS.  Pretty cas.

  • Um I love this post because I love clothes and I love shopping.  Most of you would die if you saw my closet(s).  I use the entire guest bedroom closet for my coats/jackets.  Yes, I have that many.  I have 2 (3 tiered expandable) shoe racks, and then plenty of others that don't fit on the racks.  I guess my style is classic/preppy/trendy-ish.  I shop at Target, Banana (outlet), Gap, Loft, The Limited, Old Navy mostly.  I cannot imagine shopping in the junior's department - haha!!

Kelly - Have you tried Loft?? They have like size "XXS" and they have petites (although I know you said petites are usually weird on you).  I'm not sure if you could fit their dresses/pants though because I'm normally a 4/6 at other stores and I wear a 2 always in dresses there so they might be big on you.
