I need a shot

The tequila kind.

I'm sitting here at work, dawdling until it's time to leave to meet HH, MIL, BIL & his wife for dinner (restaurant's in the town where I work, not where I live).

Ya'll know that I don't have the warmest, fuzziest feelings for my MIL, so this is not something I would ever anticipate joyfully. But then BIL's wife texted me earlier this afternoon: "[MIL]'s determined to come to your house! [BIL]'s trying to talk her out of it..."

Hellloooo, nobody invited you! I've been at work all day, and so has your son!

If MIL brings it up (which she most likely will), I'm going to say "As the lady of the house, I'm going to reserve the right to issue my own invitations when I feel ready for company." And smile.

  • I can't imagine ever inviting myself over to someone's house  like that....I say perhaps it might be best to "put her in her place" in the beginning so she knows that behavior isnt acceptable. But then again, I dont know her and that might not be the best course of action. Best of luck, let us know how it goes!

Kelly, I think you need to give a brief rundown and share a pic of your MIL from the wedding since jehawley wasn't on TK board to hear the woes of wedding planning with your MIL. I think she might understand better why we are encouraging you to say these things to your MIL.  Smile

  • Oh my gosh, you guys. Last night was awful. It wasn't even completely MIL's fault!

We were supposed to meet everyone at an Eat 'n Park (kind of like a Shari's or a Shoney's or a Denny's) in the town where I work at 6. I got there kinda early because I got off work at 5. Call from BIL-- they're going to be late, so make it 6:30. Okay. HH and I hang at Barnes & Noble for a while, then go to get a table at the restaurant.

We sit down and get coffee (apple cider for me) to wait. A family comes in and gets seated a couple of tables away from us-- a mom, a dad, and three little kids (probably ranging from about 2 to about 6). All three of these kids were ROARING. This was beyond screaming. I'd never heard anything like it. Everyone in the whole restaurant was staring, including other small children. About this time, we get a text from BIL-- they haven't even left MIL's house yet, and it's a 35 minute drive from her place.

After about 45 minutes, the children quieted down to just fussy-children volume. MIL, BIL, and BIL's wife showed up at 7:30. Ugh.

At least BIL's wife and I got to catch up and talk. That part was nice. :) MIL didn't say anything about wanting to come to our house, so I didn't get a chance to do the smackdown. BUT I did mention having Thanksgiving at our house, which was apparently news to MIL (I thought Matt had told her). She tried to pass it off like she thought this was a nice idea, but I could tell that it pissed her off. Matt asked her what she thought about it, and she paused significantly and then said, very deliberately, "I think that sounds new and different. It sounds interesting." Hahahahahahaha! Score one for me!

I'll do a different post to catch Jehawley up on the situation.

  • Ha, anytime we make dinner plans to go eat with family, Adam and I instantly veto any place that doesn't serve beer for this exact reason!!!
