I told my mom I wanted one for Christmas, but now I don't know if I definitely want the Kindle, maybe a different e-reader.
I know this has been talked about here before but I never paid attention. Drown me in knowledge.
ETA: are there compatibility issues I need to know about, like how mp4s don't play on anything but an ipod? Are there any e-books/readers with issues like that?

The non-3G ones have wireless capability, right?
Do any of them have web browsers, or would I have to get the ipad for that?

I can tell you that the Kindles without 3G do have wifi.

The Kindle has a web browser. It's not great but it works.
I would get the Kindle because it has the biggest selection of books available. $139 is a steal.
The hair grows in thick where the horn used to be.
I only read books on my kindle and I love it so much I would run into a burning building to save it.

the kindle stole my heart. I also think that amazon has better resources behind it than other brands.
also, it reads pdf files, which is awesome.

Christin talked me into it, plus my mom always asks me what I want for Christmas and I can never think of anything. I think this fits in her budget so I figured why not.
