Kindle related

I told my mom I wanted one for Christmas, but now I don't know if I definitely want the Kindle, maybe a different e-reader.

I know this has been talked about here before but I never paid attention.  Drown me in knowledge.

ETA: are there compatibility issues I need to know about, like how mp4s don't play on anything but an ipod?  Are there any e-books/readers with issues like that?

Re: Kindle related

  • I have the newest Nook and I don't know- it lets me read books.  I like it.  i don't need it for anything else so it does what it's supposed to do.  If I'm in bed, and decide I don't like what I have to read, I turn it on, go to "Shop", it hooks up to my wireless and I buy something else.  I like that convenience.
  • The non-3G ones have wireless capability, right?

Do any of them have web browsers, or would I have to get the ipad for that?

  • Email Mod.  She'll give you the pros and cons of each side.
I can tell you that the Kindles without 3G do have wifi.

  • The Kindle has a web browser. It's not great but it works.

I would get the Kindle because it has the biggest selection of books available. $139 is a steal.

  • I only read books on my kindle and I love it so much I would run into a burning building to save it.

  • the kindle stole my heart. I also think that amazon has better resources behind it than other brands.

also, it reads pdf files, which is awesome.

also I can send you links to trashy fiction series if you want them

  • I choose Kindle because I choose Amazon. I think their customer service is first rate and the company is solid. Nook would be my second choice. I'm a heavy reader and don't want to read on a computer screen so ipad isn't for me.

Christin talked me into it, plus my mom always asks me what I want for Christmas and I can never think of anything.  I think this fits in her budget so I figured why not.
