Does anyone watch Say Yes to the Dress?

I can't believe this show sometimes!  Friends, mothers, MIL, and even FIANCES!!  come and give their opinion..... the worst is when the bride loves it, and everyone else who came with her hate it.  it seems so mean!  I thought she looked really great, and they just totally deflate her.  Maybe the aspect of seeing it on tv - can'[t see it as well as those that are there, but people sometimes have really random opinions.

i feel so bad for them...  just saw some episodes where they bring their fiances....  they say it's bad luck, and then let me say, it was bad luck for me and my first husband ... i had got a dress with some girlfriends, but then he went back to see it, didn't like it, and  we got a different dress that HE approved.  i shouldve know then that it wasn't going to work out.

these girls seem to care so much that everyone else will think she looks fabulous in it; i feel like a weirdo because i'm perfectly okay if I like the dress on me; and everyone around me can pretend they like it. does that make any sense?  i mean, more like i can pretend that everyone loves it just as much.  they might, after all.  but all these differing opinions at the store - i don't think i ever want to hear them.

maybe the focus of the show is to show the harsh criticisms of the friends and families for the drama factor, but it looked awful.

this is probably an old topic for us nesties; but anyone want to share you dress shopping experiences?

reaction of the friends and family you took and how it affected you?

and did your fiance help you choose your dress?

  • I still love that show! But I totally agree. I can't believe how rude some of them are. I didn't let B see my dress before the wedding and he had no idea what it looked like. I just preferred to surprise him.

Did you see that one episode where the girl brought her fianc? and he hated all the dresses...I think they were both performers of some sort...I swear that guy is gay! He seemed TOTALLY gay and I have no idea how she didn't see that.

  • I watch the show sometimes and I really don't understand why some girls feel the need to bring their ENTIRE family, all their friends and their fiance. Way too many opinions. Also, the girls that do that probably are not very secure on the look they are going for and what they want. I brought my mom, my 2 sisters and a friend/bridesmaid -- the closest people to me. I trusted their opinion because we all have the same taste in clothes. MH didn't know anything about my dress because I liked (as did he) the element of surprise. Plus I knew that he would love anything that I picked out. I guess that the show has to show the brides that have a bit of drama surrounding them, so that is why they love showing the ones where no one likes anything they pick out.

  • haha. yeah i will watch it when i happen to catch it on tv and it is always amusing for me to watch it.  i definitely dont know why some of them bring so many ppl along b/c there is no way that many ppl are going to agree on one dress! for me i wanted some input but ultimately if I loved it then i was going to get it and that's all that mattered :) DH did not get to see the dress until i walked down the aisle and i liked that...so did he :)
  • Haha, so funny that you mention this.  I haven't really watched since I was wedding planning but happened to tune in to a few episodes yesterday because there was nothing else on.  MH came into the room and asked why I was still watching these wedding shows...I just got up and gave him a big hug and said thank you for being so great when we were dress shopping!  (I was watching the episode with the fiances too).

MH came with me to buy my second dress since I changed my mind about the first one at the last minute.  David's Bridal had just opened in Hawaii, so we went "just to look".  He wasn't too opinionated and pretty much just wanted me to be happy with the dress.  He and I both loved the dress I ended up with, but when I sent a pic to my mom on my cell phone, she didn't care for it.  But she said if I liked it, that was all that matters.  It bummed me out a little, but I went with it anyway.  On the day of the wedding, she ended up liking the dress too.

  • I think they bring their entire family and friend entourage so that they can get on TV.  I watch it occasionally but usually end up changing mid show cause they get on my nerves.
