Song suggestions - running

Hi ladies,

I need some song suggestions... I will be running my first 5K on November 13th, and I need some good running songs.  I have a few on my play list, but they are getting old.

What are your favorite songs to run to???

Re: Song suggestions - running

  • Unless you're running on a treadmill, I seriously suggest you run with nothing.  It's far safer, and in most races you're not allowed to run to your music anyways so it's honestly better training.

If you're on a treadmill/indoor track, check out podrunner podcasts.  I swear by them on my indoor runs.  It's mixed house/trance/etc set at a certain BPM to keep your pace in check.  Most tracks are 40-60 minutes.  And best of all?  They're totally free.  Podrunner also has a "First day to 5k" series where your intervals are built into the music, so the pace changes and it also has a cue to change your pace as well.   HTH.

  • I would have to agree with Moshi. Me and DH run outside and neither of us have music going. It took awhile to get use to it after working out at a gym but I really like it now. It gives you time alone with you thoughts and to decompress from the day. If brought my music with me on road runs before but I'm alway scared that I wont be able to hear a car coming!

  • But to answer your ? I love foo fighter for running to. I just went thru my music and picked up beat high tempo songs. Pink, Queen, Offspring. And I put them on shuffle so you dont listen to the same 10 songs.

  • I find Girl Talk really good for running - continuous beat and the songs blend into one another!
  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies.  We are fortunate here to have a walking trail really close to our house, so we can run without being on the road (and worry about the cars).  My best friend is running with me so we are putting my iphone on so we can both listen to it.
  • "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers is also a great running song.  The beat is a perfect running pace for me to keep up with.  I also like the Foo Fighters and Something Corporate.

I also have a kickass trail right by my house.  We also have registered sex offenders in the area.  If I'm on that trail the only thing I'm listening to are other people in the vicinity.

  • I always listen to the BEP station on Pandora. A lot of 80s rock will turn up on that station for some reason and it's awesome.
