if you have a duvet cover

We have a down comforter that we love.  But I hate the duvet cover for it.  Its basically a giant pillowcase with buttons on one end.  It doesn't look nice laying on the bed, the comforter is always poking through the buttons.  And it gets all bunched up so the comforter is in the middle and you just have the cover on the ends.

Are they all like that?  Or do we just have a really cheap cover?

Re: if you have a duvet cover

  • I used to have a nice silky one from Pottery Barn and now have a Fieldcrest Luxury (::cough:: Target!) one, and they both did that too. We currently have a normal comforter on our bed instead of the down one. As much of a pain as the duvet was and the comforter moved around in there, I did like that you could take it off to wash it. I feel weird washing the comforter for some reason, even though it says it's washable and I can get it in the machines.

  • I assume you mean that the comforter isn't staying in place inside the cover. If the cover and the comforter have the same dimensions, you can sew loops onto the comforter corners and ties into the inside corners of the cover (some comforters or covers come with these). This way, it'll stay anchored in place, at least in the corners. If the cover is bigger than the comforter (which makes no sense but is not uncommon), I've sewed in gigantic snaps on the comforter and the inside underside of the cover. I put in tons when I did it, especially along the top, to really make sure it stayed put. Good luck!
  • We have a pretty nice and pricey duvet cover we got as a gift, and it also shifts around a lot. No problems with the comforter poking out the top, but it does slide around inside the cover, and we have to pick the whole thing up every couple days to kinda shake everything back into place.

That's brilliant!  Why didn't I think of that?

    Thanks!

  • i've been using duvets since 5th grade so maybe i'm just used to them but i don't feel like we have those issues... i use these to keep the comforter from bunching though:

  • Yeah, they're all like that. BBB sells some things that is supposed to stop that comforter from rolling around but I never tried them.
  • No, they're not all like that. I've had some like that, and some that zipped closed. If you don't want to sew anything, they sell duvet clips. Turn the cover inside out. Lay the comforter on top, and you clip each corner together. Then when you flip it, it stays in place. Some have the ties sewn in, but I used clips for all the others. The clips are covered in soft material so they don't bother you. Personally, I prefer the covers with hidden zippers to buttons because I didn't like feeling the buttons while I slept. ETA: The clips I meant are what Flyman posted (I couldn't see her pic before).
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • ive had that kind of cover in the past. i found one on sale at jc penny's a long time ago and it's worked out great. the buttons are at the bottom (at the end of the bed) and it has ties in the corner so we can tie our comforter to the duvet and keeps it in place. so there are other styles out there that you could look for.
  • we have the same problem with our CK duvet cover, drives me nuts. I've contemplated sewing velcro inside, but I'm digging those clips.

  • Ours definitely shifts... it gets bulky at the bottom and then there's a bunch of cover with no duvet at the top. I always had comforters growing up, but when I moved out I bought a duvet because the design I liked only came as a duvet. I think the shifting is a minor annoyance, but I really love my duvet cover. I think I might have to go get those clips though... didn't know they existed!

  • Duvet covers often are bigger than the liners so you definitely need clips. In addition to the duvet clips mentioned, there are also clips that attach on the outside corners and are available in a variety of colors and designs. They add a nice appeal to the bedding decor while securing the inner liner to the cover. You can also add more clips along the sides and top of the cover. There is a pic on their site showing where to place the clips when the comforter is smaller than the cover. They are called Handy Accents duvet clips and are sold online at www.handyaccents.com.

  • haha umm.... i use safety pins to pin the corner of the comforter to the insides of the cover. works like a charm. :) and just make sure the button-end is at your feet, not your head.
  • SEW ONE SHOELACE INTO EACH CORNER OF THE INSIDE OF YOUR COVER. then tie each corner of the part that goes inside. this will streach it out and it wont clump up in the center.

send me $2.50 at paypal (jsequeir@yahoo.com) if this works for you , ok?

    very good idea

LOL. Well that's a nifty idea to make money.

Hmm... I think I might be better at this gig though because I wouldn't give people the idea until AFTER I was paid. Girl needs to step up her game.
