Stay away from Caribou Coffee kiosk at Southdale- Long
esterday, my mother and I used our buy 1 get 1 coupon she received in
the mail. We placed our order and paid. We went around to the pick up
area and waited for our drinks. About 10 minutes past and we noticed
that customers who ordered their drinks LONG after we did, were getting
their drinks first. My mother finally received her drink but my drink
was still missing. She asked one of the two men making drinks if there
was a decaf iced mocha being made.
The main man, who from this point on was the only person we dealt with,
behind the counter said that there were no drinks of that sort on his
screen. I am assuming when they made my mothers drink, they deleted mine
off the screen once hers was made and they forgot about it. He said
they will make one. So a drink was made and it was just placed on the
counter for pick up. Not once did the same main man say what the drink
was. I asked if this was the iced Mocha and he said yes. I asked if this
was the decaf mocha and he immediately started yelling at me that I
never told him it was supposed to be decaf. I told him that we had been
waiting for now what was easily 15 minutes for my drink, My mother asked
about the drink and he said he would make it. I stated that my drink
should be showing up on his screen. He immediately started screaming
at the top of his lungs that the drinks are not listed in the order
that they were purchased on the screen, that he was extremely busy and
that "*** Happens". He was screaming at me saying that I was wrong
because I was waiting for my drink and that it was no longer on the
screen.
He had such a bad attitude that I asked if I could talk to his manager
because I did nothing to deserve being yelled at in the middle of the
mall in front of other customers. I had only inquired that we were
waiting for 10-15 minutes for our drink, customers that came LONG after
us had already received their drink and asked where mine was. The main
man yelled at me that he was currently the manager on duty. Never in my
life had I ever been treated so horribly especially by someone in a
manager position. I said to him that he had to have a boss and that I
would like to speak with him. The main man told me that he wasn't in the
building and that he could call him. So I said yes, please do. At this
point, he finally made me the drink that I had ordered and yelled at me,
"Take it if you want it." Of course I wanted my drink. I paid for it
and I was waiting for it. The main man basically ignored me for 5 more
minutes while I patiently waited for him to call his boss.
My mother and I talked to other customers in line who had witnessed the
entire exchange and were shocked that some one who was the on duty
manager would act that way towards a customer who was only waiting for
their drink.
I had never been treated so horribly by someone else especially a
manager of a company. I just wanted my drink and felt it was completely
unfair of this man to scream at the top of his lungs and imply that I
was in the wrong. I am hoping something can be done to reprimand this
man. He was completely out of line and was not giving Caribou coffee a
good name or image. I have already sent two emails to Caribou and I am
blogging about this because I felt like crap. It didn't make me want to
ever go back to that location (Southdale Mall) ever again.
Be aware if you ever visit this kiosk location.... you could get yelled
at.

Re: Stay away from Caribou Coffee kiosk at Southdale- Long
Holy crap, that is awful! If I had been one of the customers waiting in line, I would have turned around and left if I'd witnessed that scene. If I were really feeling confident, I would tell the "manager" exactly why I was leaving too... but in real life, I probably wouldn't be that confident.
Did you ever get through to the guy's boss?
my read shelf:
OMG! I am angry for you! That's unacceptable.
Yeah I'd be on the phone with corporate tomorrow morning in a heartbeat!
I'm so bummed for you. I had a decaf white mocha today with that coupon and I enjoyed it so much. I'm sorry your mocha experience was ruined. That just sucks!
Have worked for Caribou for nearly 5 years I'm pretty appalled that that happened to you. I mean heck, I've had customers treat me like dirt in the past and never turned around and acted at all like that - for him to yell at you when you simply wanted to know about your drink is ridiculous.
When customers order drinks they show up on the screen in the order that they were rung up. If there are two drinks on an order then they appear in the same box - so the only thing I can think is that your drinks were accidentally hit off the screen. I've done that before and if you're busy you don't realize until A) the customer waiting finally says something or
you notice that someone's been waiting awhile and inquire as to what their drink was. Again... no matter what the case he shouldn't have yelled at you.
Someone from Corporate should get back to you promptly - generally they're notified the same day. Since it's Sunday I would think you would hear back tomorrow. You can also call them as I know that something of this nature would be really upsetting to whoever the store manager of that kiosk is as well as the district manager. And they'll easily be able to figure out who it was, all they'd have to do is look on the schedule to see who was there at that time.
I don't work for Caribou anymore but I'm pretty bummed to hear that something like this happened. I really hope it doesn't turn you off of the company as a whole. Obviously this guy has some kind of an issue that most likely has nothing to do with you (which isn't an excuse).
I will say I don't think this is the appropriate forum for addresing businesses poor performance. People cannot advertise their businesses here, nor should we advertise their poor performance.
I'm sorry this happened to you, no one deserves this but take your gripes up with their management.

Totally not trying to pick a fight, but I'm curious to see what you and others think.
Where is the line drawn? We're allowed to recommend businesses, rave about products, and even say "hey you can get a great deal on a KA mixer at _______ right now!" (which I admit I totally took part in that deal), but we can't criticize poor business practices?
Regulars post here all the time promoting this photographer or that restaurant or asking for vendor recommendations. So why can't we give the good with the bad? Wasn't someone here recently talking about a good and bad experience trying to switch specific airline miles? I don't recall anyone stepping in on that post and saying "you can't post this." I posted just the other week about the $1 sub deal at Jimmy John's and nobody got upset. Anyone who has been here more than a year or two knows which wedding vendors are going to get recommended or advised against if a knottie comes a callin'.
I dunno. Seems to me that if we can't share a bad experience with a business, then we shouldn't be able to recommend them either.
Well said, Josie, I agree!
Total bummer that this happened, and I commend you for keeping your cool with the manager! I hope you hear back from someone at corporate and that the manager is reprimanded...no customer should be treated that way!

Your logic is flawed- Caribou is not her business nor is she is not speaking ill of one business to push her own.
There are always posts on here to recommend a place for dinner, apple orchard, fun place to go on a date, good carpet cleaner and the list goes on.
Under your thought process no one is allowed to make recs or suggestions for services or goods.
You can take it a step further and no one should be asking opinions on if a dress looks good, will the earrings match this or what do you think of these boots?
Its a message board. No rules of use were broken. I ask for suggestions and offer them often. I will continue to do so and hope others do as well.
I know that this experience will not stop me from going to Caribou- I love their coffee. But if see the same worker at the Southdale Kiosk store working- I will forget about the coffee or go to a different location.
I do not understand how my complaining about how a worker treated me is in violation of the nest's rules. I never once said anything bad about the company itself, just this man-child's behavior.
I did contact corporate with 2 different emails but as of 10am, I haven't heard a response.
Although I don't agree with Rock-elle's manner of pointing it out, technically complaining about a vendor is a violation of the terms of use of the Nest. Ok, I just looked; they may have actually taken that provision out. The Nest and Knot used to have a rule that you couldn't air vendor disputes on the message board. I and a ton of other people on my old local were all banned for saying that a DJ didn't show up to weddings. (A true statement.)
That said, I've always thought the rule was silly, so hopefully they took it out. I hope you get a response from Corporate. Continue to contact them and go up the chain if you don't. Someone like that shouldn't be working in service.
Wow, what a meltdown this guy had - yeesh! Sorry that you had to be the target.
On another, much brighter, note, Congrats on your pregnancy! So exciting!
Though I have been gone for a few days I am popping in on vaca, IMO OP your stark accusations, while they may be accurate in your unfortunate situation, they are also perhaps isolated. You even mentioned that the others were "shocked" as in this wouldn't usually happen. My experience there has been nothing but usual. I order my coffee, they make it, I'm on my way with my cup of coffee. I visit southdale frequently and their line is always fairly long, I feel like that line would be be shorter if they were routinely rude.
Again, I am sorry that this happened to you, no one deserves this. However, your long dissertation about how rude a coffee kiosk is should be more directed at their management, not to the extreme, detailed lengths that you have desribed here.
