Re: Sister Wives

  • Watched. Probably one of the most interesting situations I've ever seen relationship wise. It's a lifestyle I can never imagine living myself but it is for some people. I think it's going to be an interesting season with bringing a new wife in, and family. Not sure if I'll remember to watch every week but I'm gonna try.

  • I agree. It brings a new side to polygamy than what I've seen in the news.  They seem functional and seem to have things worked out for them.  However, I think it's going to be interesting with this new wife and family. I'm not totally sure that's a good move... They were all together before the kids were born and now there's teenagers.  I think it'll be interesting to see how it all pans out.
  • ugh, I can't believe I missed it!  I'll need to catch it online, I'm very intrigued by this....

  • I watched it and really liked it. I have so many questions about it though! Like how they do things legally? I think he legally married the 1st wife, Meri, and then just "married" the other two?

Also, I was doing laundry so maybe I missed them answering this but, does any one know why they don't wear wedding rings? I noticed none of them wear one.

I'm assuming they live in Utah just by seeing the scenery and such around when he was driving to and from work.  I *believe* that polygamy is still legal in Utah, but not sure about that. Sounds like it's somewhat common in their area since they all go to a polygamist school... Which was one of my questions of how they explained it to their peers.  But it looks like they don't really have to for now.
I didn't hear them say anything about the rings... Maybe that'll be answered when he marries his fourth wife?

  • I just looked some stuff up. It does take place in Utah. In Utah there are 40,000 people who practice polygamy which is 2% of the population. The reason it's legal and hard to prosecute is because marriage liscenses are obtained for the first marriage and the marriages after are private ceremonies. The plural wives are seen as single mothers in the public eye. So maybe that's where the ring thing comes from.

I think what I wouldn't be able to handle is the jealousy much like Meri. I don't think I could handle being in the same house of two other women that my husband was having sex with and knowing it was going on ya know? They're a lovely family, just different and nothing wrong with that. I think its one of those things you won't understand unless you practice the same religion.

  • I thought you all might be interested in this. I saw it and immediately thought of you!

  • For some reason I'm really getting interested in this polygamy thing... not that I want to do it, I just want to understand! H grew up mormon and I think I'm driving him crazy asking him questions and he keeps telling me he has no clue... they are not mormon, they broke away from the mormon church and the mormon church does not practice polygamy anymore and hasn't in years! For some reason though I act like he should know! haha!
