My MIL who I know randomly drives by our house for no reason told us yesterday over dinner that someone (third party that she likely invented) noticed in our garbage that we threw out something with FIL's name on it.
First we were baffled as to what it could have been...then it registerd with me that 'OMG someone was noticing our garbage'!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you effing kidding me?!!
The best case scenario I (we) can come up with is that some papers fell out of our garbage which has happened on occasion after the collectors left, then during one of her weirdo drive by's my MIL stopped to pick it up, you know as a favor so our lawn looks clean or something.
Things have been somewhat okay with her since we got married and I attribute it to DH not being a 'momma's boy' but I fear it's going to get really fvcked up with kids. Thoughts?
Re: Sooooo
My first thought was "WTF??". She randomly drives by your house? Is it on her way somewhere? Does she ever stop to come in, or just drive by?
My second thought was "WTF?!? She looks through your trash?". Even if the paper fell out of your trashcan, that meant that she would have had to get out of her car, walk over to the paper, pick it up and read it.
When you have kids, you're just going to have to set clear boundaries and stick to your guns.
What did Scott say?
This. Seriously, WTF? Sounds like she is doing more than just randomly driving by if she or this mystery stalking assistant of hers is going through your garbage or picking it up off the street/lawn.
My first thought was "WTF??". She randomly drives by your house? Is it on her way somewhere? Does she ever stop to come in, or just drive by? She claims that when she is on our side of town (umm yeah okay sure) that she likes to see things we have done. She is not working and basically has nothing better to do with her time than stalk her only childs home. We don't invite them over often I am not a big fan of MIL and DH really likes his space.
My second thought was "WTF?!? She looks through your trash?". Even if the paper fell out of your trashcan, that meant that she would have had to get out of her car, walk over to the paper, pick it up and read it. She claimed someone's son lives across the street from us (or nearby or something) and noticed FIL's name and immediately told her. I doubt this is the case.
When you have kids, you're just going to have to set clear boundaries and stick to your guns. I know, I think it will lead to fights because DH doesn't like to do this because she cries all the time.
What did Scott say? At first we both sat there trying to figure out what it might have been then as it dawned on me what really took place, he got panicky (I could tell) that I was going to completely let her have it in front of a table full of people. So he was more worried about that at the moment. He spent the rest of the dinner trying to make it up to me, then reminding me that we knew she was like this.
Wow, she is a special one. I can't believe she just drives by your house! That would freak me out.

I know. She lives 25 minutes away too.
Shelley I don't even think that other person exists or if someone she knows lives near us she is using that person and it was still her that noticed it.
I noticed that. I think you have to send a message to the Nest Gods to have them delete it. You could always check with Lindsey on how to.
And Pooks, I'm not sure I would be able to handle a MIL like that. I would have to move further away or something. Good for you for not exploding at the table. Not sure I would've had the same restraint knowing of her stalking.
Ahhhh yes. I forgot he was an only child. That explains everything. You're the woman who stole him from her. Of course she wants to check in on you guys.
Seriously though. That's just creepy. Can Scott talk to her and tell her that her driving by the house all of the time makes the two of you somewhat uncomfortable? If she's going to cry regardless, he could get it out of the way. She might not realize how creepy her actions are.
O.M.G.
I don't think he will, there is only one time on record of him setting things straight/ laying down the law etc with her and she bawled her eyes out and FIL said he wasn't coming to the wedding.
At the table I started to say 'wait who said they found a paper?' and dh (who never ever talks loudly puposely changed the subject over me. He really hates confrontations, I don't love them but if it's necessary you have to suck it up.
Confrontations suck but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. I would make sure no-one could see in the front windows of the house, if you don't already. Maybe have sheer or lace curtains that cover the windows but still let the light in. Seriously creepy to drive 25 minutes across town to spy on your son and DIL. Someone needs to get a life and a new hobby.
Can I change my vote for most likely to be BSC? Because Pooks' MIL gets it.
First, dumb that she drives by when it's 25 minutes away - it's not ever going to be "in the area" and second, why was she going through your trash!?!? There is zero explanation for that. Even if it was on the ground, that's still weird. What a creep! When you get a BFP, don't throw the pee stick in the trash!!
OMG she was probably looking for that! Yeah you'll need to probably have to take it to the next 2 town's over dump or something!
Your DH is really going to have to say something soon, b/c as much as I hate it since my MIL and FIL do the surprise visits, it has to happen.

OMG I feel sick, I didn't even think about that.
Darn I threw out the empty bottle from my prenatal vitamins.
I cannot believe I have to even worry about this.
You read my mind, and actually I have taken them on and off for a few years.

I really have no advice because if my IL's did that, I would tell Drew that he needs to grow a pair and tell them to knock it off.
But, we do have a crazy lady that drives by our house. She apparently was really good friends with the previous owners. She has stopped by on more than one occasion to ask me if she could have some of the stuff that was with the house. Creepy!!! So, I know exactly how you feel being really creeped out by it.

what a creepster.
I am cracking up for some delusional reason at the last responses.
T- I think dh figures what is the point because she isn't going to change. Actually I am pretty sure that is what he thinks.. He just keeps asking me how I am surprised I just hate being the bad guy, I know she probably blames me for how little she sees him and really it's him she really grates on his nerves so he keeps the interaction to a minimum.

You're MIL definitely = creeper. I guess, I can see and go along with the random drive by. (Still a bit of a stretch due to the distance from her own house) But I cant figure out a good reason for her dumpster diving.
I'd be laying down the law once I got pregnant if I were you. At least then you can blame it on hormones. Even though we all know the truth...
