s/o FB: accepting friend requests

i've only been on FB about a year, and i have less than 100 friends.  something i've noticed, though, that i think is weird is that people will friend request me (i don't usually do the requesting), and then they don't post anything to me, like to say "hi".  of course, i say this and do the same thing, but not if i'm requesting.  i will always include a message.

anyway, i was just thinking about how kind of strange that seems.  now we're FB friends but haven't "said" a word to each other.  weird.

Re: s/o FB: accepting friend requests

  • I think it's pretty common, at least in my circle... unless it's someone that just joined FB.  This past week had a good friend join FB for the first time after resisting for so long and her wall was flooded with people saying "FINALLY!"  lol

  • I'm guilty of doing that sometimes and other times I just send them a msg vs writing on their wall.

  • I think it is very common. The only time I would include a message is if she/he was a very close friend and we have lost touch for a long time.
  • Guilty as well. I'll usually only send a message if it's been forever and I want to know what they've been up to in the past 20 years. Most of the people I add are people that I meet at conferences or meetups and I've just talked to them the day before, so I don't really know what to say in a message.

Also, I hate writing on people's walls. Don't know why, I just won't usually do it. I'll send a message or comment on a status, but I won't write on a wall.

  • Yeah, I feel like writing on walls is too public for some reason.  I prefer to comment on existing posts/photos/links.
