Where to buy living room furniture?
My DH and I are finally ready to purchase new living room furniture. We would like to buy a couch, love seat, chair, 1 end table, coffee table and a small entertainment center.
We want something that will last for a long time, but we don't want to spend a fortune.
Any suggestions as to where we should look? We live in the east metro. Thanks for your help!

I agree about not having everything match. I'm not sure if Z Gallerie is still open in Woodbury but they have some really unique items. We bought our coffee table there and it's one of my fav items in our house. I like Hom Furniture and Schneidermans too.

they are not. : (
We've bought furniture at Macy's that we really like, that's my favorite place to shop. Some items are reasonable in price, some are more expensive, depending on what quality you're looking for. They categorize their furniture's quality as "good, better or best" ... obviously the "best" pieces cost more than the "good" pieces.
I've also bought several pieces at Basset and have been really happy with them. They seem to have good quality for the price, it's not the cheapest place around (also not the most expensive), but their stuff is well-made. I have a bedroom set in our guest bedroom that my parents bought from Basset 25 years ago and it still looks new.
We bought our dining set at Hennen's Furniture in St. Cloud. I know it's out of the way, but their delivery rates are very low and prices are really competitive. We initially found our dining set at Schneiderman's, but then I saw it was also at Hennen's for a better price, and it cost less to have it delivered from Hennen's (100 miles away) than from Schneidermans, which is only 10 miles away!
Becker Furniture World has good selection, but in my experience, their prices aren't that great. Our dining set was available there too, but their price was the highest of all the stores I checked. Watch out for their 50% off sales too ... it's 50% off the MSRP, not 50% of their regular price. It's still a discount, but not 50% of their everyday non-sale price so it's not as good of a discount as they would like you to believe.
In general, I've found that you get what you pay for when it comes to furniture. Everyone wants a high-quality piece that will last a long time at a bargain price. I'm not convinced that kind of furniture exists. The high-quality stuff that will last a long time just isn't cheap.
Wherever you shop, check the clearance section. Sometimes there are pieces that have been discontinued that you can get a deal on because they're trying to clear that item from the warehouse.
Also, get the name of the manufacturer and the collection on anything you find that you like, and look at the manufacturer's website to see what other stores in your area carry that same furniture. Call the other stores to compare prices so you can get the best deal on that piece.

We have basically bought furniture for every room in the house over the last 2 years (we had started to redecorate and then had a fire) and have found HOM to have the best selection, customer service and prices. I would stay away from Slumberdump - their product is cr*p, customer service is horrible and it amazes me how they even stay open - I have several horror stories about our experience with them. We bought a few things from Schniedermans, but their overall selection is pretty traditional and our style is pottery barn/coastal/shabby chic which is very hard to find in MN.
Like others have said, you pay for what you get. We walked in Ashley in Woodbury and turned around in about 2 minutes - their floor models were literally falling apart. Macys had decent prices, but most of their stuff is traditional or contemporary so it was a no-go for us.
