Have you ever hired someone
... to clean your house? The people in the condo next door get their
place cleaned once a week, and I can't help but think how much I would
LOVE someone... even once a month to come in and dust my lampshades and
picture frames, you know? And deep clean my tub. 'Cause I just cannot
seem to do it.
But, then, I feel really... I don't know... icky about having someone else do the dirty work, you know?
Re: Have you ever hired someone
I never have personally, but my mom used to have a housekeeper. I haven't done it because I think my bigger problem is clutter, not dirt, and I don't expect someone to know exactly where everything should to, or magically find me more storage space.
I can totally relate with how you feel, but then I came across this article:

I especially like this point:
Why would I feel any guiltier paying someone for cleaning my house than cooking my food at a restaurant, or growing my food at a farmer?s market, or knitting a hat I buy at a cute store? I can cook; I can grow food; I can knit.
I figure, if you can afford it, then why feel guilty or icky about it? They get to earn a living, and you get to buy yourself some time better spent on something you actually enjoy.
By the way, today's Toronto Groupon is a 2-hour house cleaning for $55. (Although the ad says that it only takes them an hour to get through 800-1000 sq ft...)

Two of my friends have cleaning ladies... my mom and I had one for a few years when I was in HS and she came every 3 weeks.
We do a good job cleaning on the weekends, but I'd LOVE to have someone come once a quarter and do the dirty work, like wipe down the baseboards, the fans and blinds, the tub, and any other big items that I don't do often enough, skip, or do half assed....
I would never hire someone to do my laundry or vacuum, but the big things I can I understand - takes all day and some of it is hard work...

We've had a cleaning lady come every other week for the past 4 years. I think I'm totally spoiled now and it would be an adjustment to not have one. We have her do the vacuuming, dusting, bathrooms, kitchen, etc., as well as laundry. If there are one-off things we need less frequently, she'll do those too if we ask. We try to keep things reasonably clean and tidy in between and then she'll do the deeper clean when she comes in. I felt guilty at first, but it definitely helped that it was DH's idea and he pushed for it.
