Recommend your favorite cupcake flavor
I'm making cupcakes for my friend's wedding and want to make some sample flavors for her to taste this Saturday when we get together to assemble invitations.
The frosting has to be purple (if this even matters.)
Her and her FI are little outside of the box/ non-traditional and very outdoorsy.
She's also a chef so the pressure is on.
Thanks!
Re: Recommend your favorite cupcake flavor
Red velvet. Usually, it has cream cheese frosting which is a white-ish, but you could use food color to turn it purple.
And white frosting, vanilla, can be turned purple so that should be easy. And since most things taste great with vanilla frosting, that might help.
It's almost here! Weeeeeeee!

Ya I was definitely thinking that they're going to have to be flavors that go well with vanilla frosting of some kind since that'll be the easiest to color.
I'll add red velvet onto the list... I love it, but have never made it so I'm excited to try.

lca- I love them too!
You could always make the margarita cupcakes and put purple sugar on the cupcake to decorate them.
As far as flavors you could do a maple bacon cupcake. A bunch of girls on WC just made some and they looked awesome.
Just my opinion but I'm really turned off by purple/blue/green frostings. Maybe you could decorate the cupcakes with a white or cream frosting but then decorate with purple sugar, rock candy, GrapeHead, or purple sugar flowers. Just a thought though.
Peanut butter and jelly cupcakes are my most recent favorite. They'd be pretty tricky to make purple though since there's peanut butter icing and a drizzle of jelly on top.
I'm always a fan of almond cake, and J's favorites are spice or carrot. My friend had these pink lemonade cupcakes at a party last week. They tasted exactly like the sweet, slightly tart lemonade I love, plus they were pink and therefore beautiful.
Are you making them from scratch? If so, I think you'll like making red velvet. I always find it's easier to get the right texture vs. getting butter cakes to be as light as they should.
Everything sounds yummy, and I have no further suggestions (except that everyone post their recipes, because I now NEED a cupcake).
But, has your friend considered the fact that if the icing is purple, her guests are going to have purple teeth and tongues? And if it's a kid friendly wedding...

I'd recommend these Irish Car Bomb cupcakes. I made these for DH's birthday and they were sooo good! The frosting is the only thing that actually tastes like alcohol (it gets cooked out of the cake and filling) but you can make it without Bailey's for people who don't like it. The cake is really rich and moist, and the filling is to die for. You could probably dye the frosting or put sprinkles on it, like the blogger did. I agree with others that purple frosting does not look appetizing and will turn people's teeth purple...of course, if your friend wants this, then I guess you'll have to do it!

how about a lemon cupcake?
also, what about lavender frosting? i've never tried it and i don't have a recipe in mind but i know i've seen it somewhere and it would go with the purple...
Woot!!! Because at this point I'm wondering WTF CAN I eat/drink??? A margarita cupcake would be so yummy

Wow! Thanks for all of suggestions... Now I'm really craving a cupcake.
BRad- She's stuck on purple frosting but I'll mention those ideas to her. Maybe it'll help sway her. I thought about the purple mouth thing but I'm trying to keep my mouth shut since I hated people giving me endless opinions about my wedding. But alternative suggestions are good
Margarita cupcakes would be fantastic- her accent color is lime so I could do those lime and get them fit in there.
I think my H is enjoying this more than me since he's going to be the taste tester...

I know not everyone follows this but I think with fruits you have to be careful due to allergies. I know my cousin is allergic to lemons, a friend to strawberry and a lil different but one of my sorority sisters peanuts so I made sure nothing of those three were used at the wedding. You may just wanna see if she knows of any food allergies for anyone.

Good suggestion. It's a fairly small wedding so it shouldn't be hard to check on.
