i've been a slave to AA having grown up in dallas and just having more convenient flights out of austin (and also for the miles!). recently flew jetblue and loved every flight w/them. also flew southwest the first time this year in probably 14 years with good experiences.
Poll: What's the best air travel experience (international or domestic) you've ever had and why?
Re: Air travel
domestically: jetblue or southwest. I despise AA, delta, and continental.
internationally: british airways or qantas. but that was business class and it ROCKED.
i've seen british airways ranked really high. what do they do differently? i've flown japan air and eva air business class before and the service on asian airlines (at least those two) was hands down WAY better. even japan air's economy was on par (if not better) than 1st class on AA.
Hm, I wonder if we should try to get on BA flights next summer when we fly to London.
el_twirpo - have you flown 1st/business international on AA? It's definitely different than most domestic flights (except some long haul probably).

i haven't flown 1st/business internationally on AA. my grandparents have though.
you may also want to look into virgin atlantic. i've heard amazing things about them.
the planes were newer, the seats reclined all the way flat. the drinks were free-flowing and the food was pretty tasty.
oh, and the airport lounges ROCKED, lots of food and adult beverages.
haha you mean like most domestic coach flights right now?
i just cashed in some miles to go to germany on AA next spring, but only in coach. i think fully reclined seats and booze would be quite lovely. definitely missing out!
I don't even know if AA international business is worth it...if it's anything like domestic first class, forget it. I'd rather be with the chickens in the back.

I haven't had a really bad experience in recent years (knock wood), but Jet Blue generally stands out as being the most enjoyable. I'm a sucker for the tvs in the back of the seat.
It's worth it. It's not the same as domestic unless you get lucky and get a special plane... there are a few between JFK and DFW or DFW and ORD for example (and I'm sure JFK/LAX). You get the chairs that fold flat (not parallel to the floor, but flat at an angle) and have like 6 buttons to adjust the seat, food coming at you every which way, booze of course, your own entertainment system pre-loaded with movies, tv shows, music, games, etc, duvet, amenity kit, and tons of space. Oh and you get to use the Admiral's Club (I hear they have free drinks now too).

One of the best airlines I ever used for coach was Midwest. They BAKE FRESH COOKIES on every flight. Sold.
The airline we cannot stand is US Airways. Their planes are always ancient and smell terrible and we have experienced several unapologetic delays and baggage loss.
It's funny, I think Southwest is a love it or hate it thing. It stresses me out beyond imagination.
Domestically I've never really had any major issues other than delays. I tend to stick to American so flying out of Austin is a pain because there are so few direct flights but other than that I get on, read a book or sleep, and get off. As long as we don't crash, I'm good.
Internationally... I flew BA business class to Heathrow this summer and wasn't thrilled. I did like the little help yourself snack area but the flight attendants were downright rude. Maybe it was the strike, who knows.
JAL was amazing - my H and I joked that we'd move to Japan just to fly that airline all the time. American first/business class international is usually good too.
Worst - Air France. Athens airport, and the check in woman made me so mad I very nearly got myself arrested. Never ever ever ever ever again.
ah, ok. we cashed in some miles for a "first class" ticket (I use that term loosely) to vegas and the bastards wouldn't even let us use the admirals club at AUS.
Yeah, they don't let you use it on domestic first class, only international. You weren't missing out on much though, the Austin admirals club is boring and severely lacking in the snack department.
I've heard it's pretty crappy, but it's the principle DAMMIT!
Oh no!
My H accidentally ran over the back of my foot with the luggage cart when we were coming into the airport - a very lovely person stopped and gave me bandaids but by the time we got into the lounge I'd bled through them. My poor H was panicking because he felt so bad but the people there were sooooo nice and took me into one of the little rooms and bandaged me all up. Plus they had american breakfast, I hadn't had american breakfast in more than a week and I've never been so happy to see a piece of bacon, LOL!
