Restaurant Recs

H and I are fast approaching our one year anniversary (yay!) and we are wanting to go somewhere close, but spend a night away.  Our plan right now is to have dinner at a nice restaurant and then spend the night at a hotel.  We aren't committed to anywhere in particular at this point, but are looking for some suggestions for a nice plate to eat (we kinda want it to be something special).  We are open to Dayton, Kentucky or surrounding areas.  The only real criteria we have is that we don't want the drive to be more than 1 & 1/2 hours each way.  Any suggestions for a good place to eat would be appreciated, then I can scour for a nice hotel.  TIA!

  • DH and I spent our first anniversary at Belterra. There is a Jeff Ruby steak house there that is wonderful and the rooms are very nice. It was a nice little getaway I would definitely recommend.

  • Our absolute favorite place to eat for a special occasion is Boca. I would eat there and then find a nice downtown hotel. The big fancy Hilton, maybe?

  • We did a weekender at the Cincinnatian. With the package (at least when we did it) you got a $100 gift certificate to the Palace Restaurant. It was awesome, the whole evening--the meal, the room, it was just fantastic.
  • Barresi's in Deer Park is one of our favorite romantic evening places.  I also love the Melting Pot (P not so much).  I love that dinner takes forever and their booths are set up so you feel pretty isolated.
  • We always enjoy going to Louisville for a night or 2 just to get away. We have never went for a romantic dinner there, just caught a comedy show at 4th street live, dinner at whatever random restaurant and we typically go when Churchill Downs is running so we can go there during the day. Even if you don't do Churchill there is SO much to do in Louisville.

  • Eddie Merlot's in Montgomery is a great place for dinner.
  • We love any of Ruby's restaurants, but we particularly like Carlo & Johnny in Blue Ash...fun, yet romantic atmosphere and they have a bar/dance area with good bands on the weekends (not cheesy, bit of an older crowd) http://www.jeffruby.com/carlojohnny.php

Prima Vista is a nice, romantic place with a great view! http://www.pvista.com/

Also, if looking for a weekend trip - reco Indianapolis...lots of fun stuff there to do and reco St. Elmo Steakhouse downtown!!!

  • OK, so I don't have any restaurant recs. However, for Mark's birthday one year I got us a room at Wildwood Inn in Florence. They have all kinds of theme suites. We stayed in the ice cave room; the entire room was made to look like an ice cave, plus there was a hot tub in the room. It was so fun and pretty romantic. They have an indoor pool area that's a lot of fun, too, although overrun with kids so not so romantic there. :)

Or....I've never stayed here but I want to sooo bad.....Sybaris Pool Suites in Indianapolis has rooms you can book with a POOL. In. The. Room!! Hmm....maybe I'll do that for our first anniversary.....
