Re: Prop 8 is set to pass?
my read shelf:
Are you kidding? There are conservatives all over the rural areas of California. Like one of my best friend's families... arch-conservative raisin farmers who essentially disowned my friend when he came out. They and their friends will vote in droves on this issue.
Of course that is true but I don't think you can argue that this thing would pass if there weren't for some level of support among liberal voters. I'm not saying it's the majority, but statistically, the support of a fair chunk of liberal voters would be required.
I'm not convinced this data is all that accurate. That Merc article describes a "swing" by comparing data from different polls. That's insanely inaccurate.
I don't have a source, but I believe this poll did not include cell phones, which is hugely important since this vote splits more on age than party. Also, I've definitely seen more No on 8 ads since this news broke, some specifically refuting the false claims of the Yes campaign.
I'd be interested to see the fundraising numbers - I got no less than 3 emails the day this news broke urging donation and I did, I think it could be a good thing if it reenergizes the No campaign.
Proposition 8, the ballot measure that would block gay men and lesbians from marrying.
I totally laughed out loud at this. Imagine if it was all a big hoax. That the Prop only banned gay men from marrying lesbians.
Bwahahaha. that would make a great anti-Prop 8 ad!
This is an old article, which uses the same survey I posted about last week--I don't think the methodology is very reliable, for a variety of reasons. ?But the most telling is that if you look at the crosstabs, they have 18-34 year olds being the most supportive of Prop 8. ?I just don't buy that young people are the yes voters.
But if you are disturbed--sign up for their web-based phonebanking. ?I just did, and then you can help from home.
Deductive reasoning isn't a conservative or liberal attribute. ~epphd
Just as there are conservatives who support gay marriage there are liberals who don't support. Most people I know on both sides of the political spectrum support civil unions moreso than gay marriage.
The prop 8 people (those for it) have spent over 10 million more than those against.
Really, that part doesn't surprise me. The people who see gay marriage as a big evil threat will spend money to defeat it. Those on the other side probably aren't as easily fired up to donate. They may think it's important as a civil rights issue, but people don't often spend money unless they feel personally affected.
