Job question... what to wear

I worked for Swatch in FL and spoke with the asst. manager at a store in IL and will be going to fill out an application and meet him this week. Do you think it's ok to wear jeans, a nice top, and boots or flats? Their dress code is black pants and a baseball shirt. I would wear black khakis, and black sneakers when I worked there.

Re: Job question... what to wear

  • I think that if you're just going up there to fill out an application, then jeans and a nice top would be fine.  If you think it might in to an interview type situation, I would maybe wear just a pair of chinos instead of the jeans. (but not necessarily black)

I agree. Probably better to lean on the side of caution though

  • I agree with Jenny and Goontz.  If you think they might interview you right away go a little dressier.

    black khakis

    Is that an oxymoron? haha

Is this ok for another interview that is said to be a casual attire job? I'm use to wearing black slacks and a collared or other nice top for an interview. I'm going to be doing both in one day, and don't want to be over dressed for Swatch either.

  • I think any type of kakis and a nice top with flats would be good for both interviews.

It is much better to be overdressed than underdressed, regardless of the type of job you're interviewing for.  The first impression speaks volumes. If you're underdressed, you will have to be stellar in the interview to overcome it. I'm speaking from doing lots and lots of interviews over the years. I made HH wear khakis, a button down shirt, and a tie to go apply for warehouse jobs when he first moved here. He thought I was crazy, but he got a job!

Good luck!  Keep us posted on how today goes.

I totally agree. I dont think you have to wear a suit or anything. But I would def go in slacks and a nice top.

If you go into the interview in jeans are they going to take you seriously. You need to look like you want it. You are not at this point dressing for the job. You are dressing like you want a job.

Khaki's and a Nice dress shirt & cute shes will work I think for both jobs.

    Hey good Luck!!!

  • Don't worry about over dressing. I dressed up for an interview at Subway where I was pretty much guaranteed the job.
