Lurker question--Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?

My brush-scrubber and a regular sponge aren't cutting the nastiness that is our tub (I'm so embarrassed!).

What has your experience been with the magic eraser?  Worth it or no?

TIA!

Re: Lurker question--Mr. Clean Magic Eraser?

  • It's so cheap, why wouldn't you try it????  That and bar keeper's friend.
  • I find they work really well for trim, doors, walls, but in the tub it fell apart really quickly. It did loosen a lot of the scum, but I think you want to get all you can before the ME or you'll just run through a whole box. Bar Keepers friend is great, so maybe scrub down well with that first, then tackle the leftover scum with the ME.

  • Love it! We always have a few boxes on hand. DH even uses them for cleaning inside of his (and my) cars.

    This.

  • Thanks, ladies--I was somehow under the impression it was more expensive than reality.

It was great!  It did fall apart a little, but I had worked on the tub some before I used it.

Would I find that other product at Target, or somewhere different?

Bar Keeper's Friend is just a powder cleanser, similar to Comet.  I'm sure you can get it at Target.  Personally I like Comet and it's very inexpensive.

  • Magic Eraser rocks! DH and I cleaned our apartment with them when we moved into our house.

Haven't tried bar keepers friend, but I'm wondering where people find it? I've heard great things about it, but have never seen it anywhere.

  • Thank you!  It's on my shopping list!
  • We got our last jar of Bar Keepers Friend from Home Depot - it's also at Walmart and should be at Target too. It's a cylindrical shape about 8 inches tall and has gold foil outside with writing.

For our sink and stovetop I use Bar Keepers with Magic Eraser

  • I use the heavy duty kind for the tubs and showers.  They have worked great for me.
  • Love them! Eraser + Method shower cleaner works great in the bathroom!
  • I use the magic eraser for bathrooms and it works great on our tub. For really bad soap scum you will use the entire thing though
  • I use the Magic Erasors + vinegar on almost everything in our apt...I love it!  Nothing, I mean NOTHING, would get our bathtub clean until I used these two with a little bit of baking soda.  Mine fell apart too, so I just do the tub last.
