What is your passion?

Lately it seems like everyone is very "into" something.  Whether it be healthy eating, recycling, smart money management, breastfeeding, awareness of  breast cancer, LGBT groups, atheism, Christianity--I always see someone promoting and/or wanting to educate others on what they know and are excited about. (Please know I am in no way being negative, it's just an observation!)

So...what is your passion?  What would you like others to know more about/be more aware of?

Re: What is your passion?

  • I've noticed that too about people.

    I guess I have quite a few things I'm interested in/passionate about:

    God

Dave Ramsey/Common sense handling of money

Natural Birth/VBAC (I'm starting to become more interested in this as time goes on...)

    Pro-Life Groups

    Fitness/Healthy Lifestyles

  • A new one for us is smart money management. Things got out of control for awhile, and we're finally coming back to everything evening out. It's a good feeling.

    Others include:

Fitness [yet another new one...i haven't been this into fitness since i played volleyball in high school]

    All things Air Force

Healthy cooking...well, just cooking in general

    Scrapbooking :)

  • Good question!

    1. Sociology

    2. The ending of -isms (directly tied to above) like racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, etc. and promotion of equal rights, treatment, and opportunities for all.

    3. Cooking/baking

    4. Reading

  • Well, my passion is accounting. I looooooove it. I looooove to read the IRC to try to find loopholes. I also loooove to read the new accounting pronouncements and write letters of suggestions to the FASB.

    Or not.

I love to read - right now I am really into the Phillipa Gregory books about England during the reign of Henry VIII.

Traveling - The majority of our disposable income is spent on traveling - I love to investigate new places!

Eating - Nothing is better than trying a new restaurant and eating a good meal.

    Home reno stuff - Good.God.

I feel kind of stupid after reading everyone else's passions because mine are so...elementary but given that I actually do read the IRC to find loopholes and do write letters to the FASB which is somewhat interesting but exhausting, I prefer to keep my personal life pretty bland.

  • Reading/literacy

    Animal welfare

    Sarcoma awareness

I think those are the three biggies..

  • Conservation and recycling

  • Thinking about it I really don't have too many but I do have a few:

    1. Literacy- I have volunteered at some public libraries to help adults learn to read. This is a huge thing for me. It is really sad to see some people come in and they are not able to read a sentence.

    2. Cancer- It's not just one specific type. My FIL actually under went proton therapy this year and is now a cancer survivor.

    3. VBAC- I have started doing my research on this and figuring out that the first time around I was not as prepared and educated as I thought I was.

  • Things that I am passionate about in that I love doing them are reading and doing volunteer work.

I wouldn't say I'm passionate about atheism, because lack of belief in something is difficult to be passionate about.  However, I am passionate about letting people know that there are more atheists out there than you would think  and that we aren't satan worshippers or baby eaters, but that we do good for our communities and have strong morals and ethics - they just aren't based around religion.  I am also passionate about working to create a community for non-believers in the OKC area.

Things that I wish people knew more about and try to help educate people where I can are car seat safety and circumcision.

  • I'm not an expert in any of these, but I'm interested in: working out, yoga, vegetarianism, recyling, animal rights, and tolerance/human rights. I'm trying to educate myself on these topics.

  • God, living to follow Jesus. I feel like God has opened my eyes to a lot of new things I've never thought about in-depth. Like greed and how unimportant money and material things are, the importance of giving, having compassion for homeless people, telling people about Jesus, inviting people to church.

According to Dr. Thom Rainer's book "The Unchurched Next Door", 82% of the unchurched are at least somewhat likely to attend church if invited, 7 out of 10 unchurched people have never been invited to church in their whole lives, Only 2% of church-goers invite someone to church in a given year. That is very sad and I think it needs to change. The pastor at the church we've been going to mentioned this last week, how much do you have to hate your friends and family to not invite them to church? If you think about it, if you are a Christian, you (most likely) believe non-Christians go to hell after they die, what about your non-christian family memebers and friends? You're okay with not inviting them to church because you don't want it to be weird or awkward? Or you think they'll say no? That means they miss out on an opportunity to hear the word of God because you were too afraid of making things awkward. What if you asked them to go to church with you, they say yes, they end up giving their life to Jesus, and it all started because you simply ivited them to church? That really, really got me thinking. Okay, I'm off my soap-box :)

These are just a few things that have really been on my mind lately.

  • Teaching music and journalism are probably my biggest passions

    Photography

Cooking (H even offered to pay for culinary school later on when we're more financially able to afford it...kind of interesting to me to think about)

Teaching open-mindedness and non-judgment of others

  • This is a good one...  :)

Here are a few of my obsessions:

    - Photography: Not only is it my job and my passion, I also enjoy giving away pro-bono sessions to people who receive some kind of government assistance, as well as volunteering at my church on their photography team.

    - Dance: I attend any and all classes I can get my hands on (Zumba, hip hop, classical ballroom and latin, etc).  This is my most favorite way to stay in shape.  I feel like all the chicas on H&F are on 'roids about running, cross training, and/or bi/triathalons...  I just can't get into it.

    - Constitutional law and civil rights: I would go back to school to become a lawyer in a heartbeat if I could.

    - Volunteering and tithing: The bible study that we lead focuses on these two things in a huge way.  Recently we've been combining an equal portion of our tithes to assist someone in the community... Paying off medical bills, making house payments, etc.  It's a rush.

    - Generating awareness of domestic sex trafficking:  Seriously it's disturbing how many children and young women are kidnapped and sold.  SOLD.  In the US. www.a21campaign.com

"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no greater commandment than these." - Mark 12:30-31 studiowestway.com facebook.com/studiowestway
  • 1.  Teaching and children in general

    2.  Living a healthy lifestyle--I spent too much of my life not caring about what I ate, so I decided to change that earlier this year Smile

    3.  Being financially responsible

    4.  Cooking/baking--LOVE IT!

    5.  Most recently, all things TTC and pregnancy-related.  It's important to me to be as well educated as possible.

    6.  Breast cancer awareness and prevention.  5 women in my family have been diagnosed with, and are now in remission from, breast cancer.  Ladies, PLEASE do your monthly BSE!!

  • 1. Political Science

    2. Education (higher)

    3. Traveling (I LOVE traveling)

    4. Holidays

    5. People getting involved in political affairs, ignorance is not bliss it is ignorance.

    Vacation
  • Birthing/Breastfeeding-not so much soapbox-y on these issues but I'm all about educating and preparing MYSELF for my upcoming birth and I'm really hoping to EBF this time around so I'm reading a lot about the subject and attending La Leche League meetings for support.

Crockpotting (is this a word?)- I'm all about using my crockpot

Recycling- H thinks I'm a weirdo but I bring home cans/plastic bottles from places that don't have bins to recycle at home. I just don't want our stuff to end up in a landfill if I can easily recycle it.

Reading-I always have to have a book to read. I don't think I could poop without one (ok maybe I could but I wouldn't like it :0)

Enrichment for toddlers-I'm really big on exposing Conner to learning type environments and getting social outings with other children. Oh hell I just don't want to stay at home all the time :0)

  • Supporting our military and veterans.  This is my favorite new charity:  http://www.woundedwarrioroutdoors.com/index.html  They provide hunting/fishing trips to veterans.  How awesome is that?!
