movie review..The Road

So we bought the movie The Road the other day.  We both read the book by Cormac McCarthy (VERY hard read!!) but the movie was AMAZING!  It never made it to theaters up here.  But it was a fantastic story about a journey of a father and son.  It literally had ALL emotions in it.  I was crying one minute, on the edge of my couch the next and laughing another!  Very good movie if anyone is interested.

Main actor was Viggo Mortensen and Robert Duvall was in it also.

ETA:  the story went along almost exactly from the book!  But that being said, there wasn't a lot of pre-curser as to how all this came about and it ended pretty abruptly also.

Re: movie review..The Road

  • I love Viggo so much but I hated that book with the fire of a thousand suns.

Is the little kid at least less whiny in the movie?

  • yeah...the book was a TERRIBLE read!   The boy was still whiny but not NEARLY as bad as in the book.

Really?  Even with the the super dark themes and the whiny son, I thought that The Road was a fantastic novel (the only thing I didn't care for was that McCarthy opted not to use quotation marks to signify conversations).  Too each their own though.

  • I should specify Kate...It was a FANTASTIC novel and story!!  I just didn't like how it was written.  His punctuation made it VERY hard to follow at times!  But I totally agree it was a great story!

I really respect Cormac McCarthy as a writer and I thought it was fantastically written. I just hated the story. But I'm not really one for the quasi post-apocalyptic or end-of-days or survival stories.
