I need help....with magazines
I have way too many piles of magazines, but I cannot bear to throw them out until I have gone through them.
What can I do with them so they are not piled everywhere in stacks. I don't have any empty bookshelves or containers for storage. Garage is pretty full. I guess I just need to do 2-3 per day and get them moving.
I'm open to all your ideas.
Thanks bunches.
Re: I need help....with magazines
I'm slowly going through my magazines and scanning what I want to keep. I have everything organized into folders on my computer (recipes, decorating ideas, gardening, etc.). I'm using a Neat Receipts scanner, so it's pretty quick and easy (and portable!).
However, I still have sooo many...I'm considering just recycling all of the old ones and doing a better job at keeping up from here on out.
Another idea is to put some in DH car if you do a lot of riding in there. It helps me stay up on them. I also read about puting a curtain rod up in your bathroom (at reaching level
) and hanging them over it to keep them looking nicer than thrown in a pile.
I got it for Christmas last year; it was from Costco. DH and I remember it only being $100, but looking at the prices on Amazon, it looks like they run about $150 so either we are mis-remembering (Costco doesn't have it on their website) or it was a really great deal.
Once they are older, I go through them while watching TV, riding in the car with DH, or before bed. I then pull out recipes, home decor ideas, etc. to organize in a binder. I take the remains (most of the mag is still in tact) to school and either use them for activities/projects or place in the teacher's workroom for others to take for personal reading.
One of our local libraries has a section called take a magainze, leave a magazine. I used to drop them off by the boxload there. Some dr offices, hospitals, shelters, nursing homes, etc. will also accept them to place in their lobbies/lounges. There are several ways to recycle!
wow - thanks everybody
I will recycle - there is a lady who asked for them on freecycle for her kids/homeschool/daycare/whatever to cut up, so that will be a good use after I go through them.
*Going to read magazines*
Great Idea! I never thought of that. I usually just give them to friends that don't have the subscription as soon as I am done reading it. But I know local gyms usually have racks of magazines too for people to read while doing cardio. I'm sure they would love donations!
I used to have a really bad magazine problem they were overflowing on my little book case so I put them all in a box and let my co-workers and friends go through and pick out the ones they want and then I threw away all the rest. Now I stay up on it pretty well as soon as I read it I clip any articles or Ideas I like out of them and put it in a binder that I keep then I give them away or throw them away! No need to let them build up
