Hello!
My niece is turning 1 soon and I don't know what to send her for her brithday. They live across the country from us, we're in CA while they are in NY, so I need something I can ship easily. Also they have an apartment and not a lot of extra space so nothign too big.
I've already asked her mom but she doesn't even know what to get her for her birthday so we are in the boat together.
I do want to get my niece something fun that she will enjoy, I'm also big on the toys that help their development but I don't know what to send to her.
Any fun ideas???
Jessie

Re: 1st birthday presents???
Check out Toys R Us and other stores' websites and see what kind of educational toys they have for babies, then order it online and have it shipped to their home.
I know it's not as "personal," but f you're absolutely stumped on what to get her even after seeing what's out there, maybe just send a Toys R Us gift card and let her parents pick something out.
Right around 1, my daughter really fell in love with the Fisher Price little people sets. They have some sets which come with a little person, blocks, and some sort of vehicle (a boat, a train, etc.) that holds everything. They're not very big, so I would think it would be easy to ship and also not take up too much space in the apartment.
Also, if funds permit, I second a contribution to a 529 or other savings plan.
I agree with this. And I would go the route of something more sentimental / commemorative. Your niece is going to get fun stuff to play with from other people.
I still have a locket and a baby birthstone ring that were given to my parents on my first birthday.
Books. She will enjoy spending time with her parents while they read the books to her, they're easily shipped, and they don't take up too much room. I've never known a kid with too many books.
And yes, I am the boring aunt.

Melissa and Doug anything! I have been buying my neice and nephew these items since before they were even born and they love them. Sometimes the simplest, classic toys get the most.
My fave were wooden building blocks.
Ditto anything Melissa and Doug or books.
Personally I would buy savings bonds, put the money in a 529 or any other savings account the parents have set up.
Thanks everyone!
Lots of great suggestions!
