What can you guys tell me about Broken Spoke? I've never been there before and have some friends from Scotland that are wanting to go next week. I see that they offer a dance lesson but we probably wouldn't make it in time for that as we will probably be coming from dinner at the Salt Lick. I'm flying down to Austin so I probably won't be able to pack my Stetson (boo) and I (gasp!) don't own any cowboy boots so I'm wondering what else I could wear.
And how is the crowd on Thursdays, anyone know? Is parking relatively easy? Is there a cover charge? Will the ladies get asked to dance? I hope so since DH won't be able to make the trip down there with me and I wanna two-step!

Re: Broken Spoke
I don't know/don't remember about parking or cover charge. I think it mostly depends on who is playing that night. The ladies should get asked to dance. If not by anyone in the 20-40 age range, there are a couple of resident old guys that love to dance and love to make girls/women feel special (by asking them to dance). They are really good dancers and mean no harm. They really are there just to dance. It's Austin, so just like anywhere else, you can wear whatever you want, but boots and a dress would be cute if you've got them.
Have fun with your guests! Oh, and I love The Salt Lick!
I absolutely love the Broken Spoke. There is usually a cover on every night except Tuesdays, but you can call them ahead of time to find out what it is. Parking is never a problem on the weekends, so I imagine it won't be a problem on Thursdays. You don't need to wear boots, but closed-toe shoes are probably a good idea, in case someone steps on your toes!
Jesse Dayton is playing tomorrow and he is great. You will probably get asked to dance, I've heard that that happens there (especially if you don't mind dancing with the older dudes!) but I've only ever danced with my husband. Also, ladies do often dance together!
The dance lessons start at 8, but they suck anyway, If you have an elementary knowledge of the two-step you will be fine!
