Does anyone have a Kirby?
Does anyone have a Kirby Sweeper? A salesman came to our door tonight and did a demo. It seemed awesome, but the pricetag...OUCH! just wondering if you have one, do you think the price was worth it?

Re: Does anyone have a Kirby?
I have 2. One is 50 years old, the other is 20 years old and both still work GREAT! I'd love a newer model (they're so much lighter) but I just can't justify buying another when the old ones still work better than anything else I've ever seen out there.
Just don't take the first price they offer you, when I bought my 2nd one, I paid $600 less than the price he first quoted.

My mom used to have one (it was brand new when she bought it - around 1990). We only had two arguements... it was so farkin heavy and the attachments were difficult to use.
It did work really well and it was built to last. She only got rid of it because of the weight. She has a three story townhouse with a yellow lab, a yorkie, two cats, and two teenagers... she has to vacuum daily and it was just too heavy to be lugging up and down all of those stairs everyday.
ETA: Ditto the pp who said not to take the first offer. They'll negotiate down to a price you can realistically afford.

H grandmother has one that she has been letting us borrow... It works just fine. BUT! The attachments are a pain in the rear and I would just about bet you'd have to be a body builder to push it around. I swear it is SO HEAVY!!! I seriously break a sweat vacuuming our small living room
I would honestly not pay THAT MUCH for the name; we now have a Hoover which is ten times better than the Kirby, much more light weight, easy to use attachments and comes without that hefty of a price tag!
I used an older one in a commercial setting where we couldn't afford a commercial vacuum. They worked really well and held up well, and are fixable. Newer vacuums cost just much to replace as to fix.
They are very heavy, I used to use them to vacuum large meeting rooms, which wasn't bad, except that I had to switch arms...I always joked that I didn't need to lift because I vacuumed.
We have a Kirby it's maybe 5 years old, I love it, it is heavy but it sweeps so well. We had a sales man come to the door too. It's not hard to push when it's in drive, but when it's on manual it's hard to push. I don't really find it a heavy to carry it upstairs to sweep, just awkward.
