rec your optometrist / place to get cool glasses

DH and I need to go to the eye doctor and our old place doesn't always have the best selection of frames. Where do you go?

Re: rec your optometrist / place to get cool glasses

  • DH and I both go to Stars in Your Eyes downtown. I think they have a nice selection of frames, especially trendy ones.
  • We see a doctor that we like and we prefer a specialist over a optometrist, get Rx then go shop around for glasses. If you want unique and cool (and spendy) Santa Fe Optical would be the place to go. A lot of times Costco has deisgner frames for a very reasonable price. If you still want something more fancy there is an optometrist in Cedar Park  (1431 & Parmer Lane, next to HEB) is a nice place, the optometrist is a hip and young lady with good taste and she has a nice selection of designer frames.
  • i go to stars in your eyes downtown as well. their opticians are really good about making sure your frames fit properly on your face. i have a small asian face and practically no nose bridge, so i've always had a difficult time.

i bought glasses from costco once, and because there wasn't really the hands-on experience of someone suggesting frames that will fit perfectly, the ones i chose kept slipping down my face no matter how i adjusted it. they do have AWESOME prices though, and i just bought my contacts from them ($30/box) rather than stars in your eyes ($45/box).

We go to Eyemasters as well. They always have some sort of sale going on and they have a great selection including designer frames.

  • We go to Bella Vision on 38th/lamar(ish) and really love them.  The optometrist is super nice and let's us go in together so that we can compare our eyesight (it's a contest since we're both 20/20).   i did have to get reading glasses this last time (so i lost), but they had awesome frames and i was excited to get some trendy glasses.  they also came super quick (think i ordered them on wednesday afternoon, picked them up on friday).

they just opened a 2nd location at congress/riverside too.

Also, try Zenni Optical online for your glasses...they are uber cheap and you can get some pretty nice frames.  I got two pair for less than $60 the last time I ordered.

  • I love my eye doctor, his name is Dr. Soltys and he's at Barton Creek Vision, in the Barton Creek Mall. They have weekend hours, which I like, and he is a really good and friendly doctor. They're right next to LensCrafters, which of course has an okay selection of frames. But I usually just get the exam from him and then shop around. Eclectic Eyewear on the Drag has a lot of really nice frames, but they tend to be pretty expensive.
