Sister Wives

Did anyone watch this show? What did you think?

I think the whole things is pretty interesting.  Definitely not something I'd be into, but interesting how the whole dynamic works with their family.  They seem like they are very grounded and are doing a great job parenting their kids.  I have to admit I feel bad that this publicity could bring felonies!  They should have realized that could be a consequence of this show, but I guess I'm not sure what harm they are causing.  Here's a quick article on the investigation.

If you want to see some major drama check out the Sister Wives post on MM.

Re: Sister Wives

  • I didn't catch it, maybe they re-run it. I saw an article about the investigation. What did they think was going to happen, really?

I'm always facsinated by people who practice polygamy. I like to hear their point of view, and it does always seem like they are completely fine with it for the most part. Which baffles me. Either they are really good at lying or they truly are happy with their lifestlye.

  • i haven't seen it, but want to!  i don't really understand though, how he can be prosecuted for biligamy or whatever it's call, when only one of his marriages is legal... it's not like he married one woman legally and then married another one (legally) while still married ya know?  it's not like he dupped anyone.

i would think essentially it's basically like an open marriage to a degree ya know?  which as far as i know isn't illegal.  *shrug*

just from the interviews i've seen i think it seems a lot different than the public view of what polygamy households are like, and i think that's pretty interesting.  they seem fairly normal and not really that cult like ya know?

anyway, look forward to watching it!

I completely agree with all of this.  Not sure exactly how he is breaking the law when he is married to wife #2 and wife #3 through the church.  And I do agree that they aren't cult-like, which I was happy to see!  They actually seem very normal and well adjusted.

I feel like cults can be difficult to identify, though. They did say the kids go to a school where all the other kids have polygamist parents, which does seem kind of cult-ish to me. I don't know, whenever kids are isolated from mainstream society it makes me wonder a bit.
