Wednesday Hump Day

We had a cold front pass through Austin and it's been dramatically cooler the past few days.  We woke up yesterday to 57 degree weather, and when DH left for work, we saw a neighbor out for her morning walk in a full parka with a fur-lined hood!  Silly Texans Stick out tongue

What's happening J09?

Re: Wednesday Hump Day

  • That is too funny about the parka!

Not much going on here. I have been picking up extra hours at work because there is a nasty virus going around. Luckily, I haven't got it yet. And yay for extra money! We also got a refund from our escrow and our house payment went down $50 a month. So we went shopping yesterday, lol. I ended up with two new sweaters and a pretty fall table runner.

Other than that, my life has been a little dull lately.

I am doing alumni band at my old high school Friday night. That should give you all a good laugh!

  • Gotta love overreacting! :)

I'm definitely enjoying the weather right now. I'm hoping these next few little fronts keep it this way. Looking forward to the next electric bill finally going down!

Not much going on around these parts. I represented DH in traffic court this morning and got his ticket dismissed, which saved us a ton of money!  My birthday flowers from last week are still gorgeous and making my office smell awesome. I'm having a great day aside from the headache that won't die! :)

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

HA!  You found a way to use that extra money really quickly!

Leigha--I hope your husband appreciates being married to a lawyer!

  • I have actually had a semi-productive day at work today.  I brought my headphones in and have tuned out all of my coworkers except the one I have been IM'ing all day. Tonight Amelia and I are going to run a few errands, then visit a friend.

Has anyone seen any good comedy or chick flick movie lately that is available on DVD?  DH and I are having date night in on Sat and we haven't been keeping up on movies that have come out lately.

I spent a good bit of it, but not as much as I had planned. I really wanted to get some fall/winter clothes for work, but had a hard time picking anything out.

Has anyone done any good shopping lately? Where is Mames?

The only one I've seen recently is Date Night.  It was entertaining, but much darker than I thought it would be.  I was anticipating "wacky mix-up" and instead got "regular couple being pursued agressively."

  • You rang? :) Other than a few things from F21 and H&M, I ordered some jeans, sandals, and shirtdress from ON. Just came today but haven't tried on yet.

Leigha - nice job on the traffic court!!

I made pulled pork in the crockpot today, so I'm about to dig in. :)

  • Kaley - I love what H&M has out right now. Trendy, but easy to wear pieces. ATL also has some good work pieces & JCrew has fun accessories. Steph - That is really surprising because it looks like such a good cast. Sorry for the weird formatting - phone post.

  • Lucky, DH and I LOVE Date Night. We laughed our butts off and still quote it!

Mames, crockpot pulled pork is awesome! Enjoy! I might have to make some more soon.  We finished up our leftover crock pot chicken tacos last night from this weekend. Also, very yum! (and may or not involve a can of Ro-Tel!!)

  • I wish it were fall here and I could start doing and wearing fall things!  It's been in the 100s, though today might be a little cooler.  I would love a fall table runner!

And, Lucky, avoid Pirate Radio like the plague.  My friend and I made the sad mistake of watching it Saturday night and I thought I'd claw my eyes out.  We ended up apartment hunting for her online instead and using it as a background soundtrack.

  • I thought Date Night was cute. The savings graces are obviously Steve and Tina.

Leigha - that sounds really good too! I came across a recipe for something similar yesterday that I should try.

  • Mames, real easy recipe:

Pour one packet of McCormick's chicken taco seasoning in crockpot. Place 3 frozen chicken breasts on top. Cover with 1 can or RoTel, 1/4 cup water and 1/4 vegetable oil. Cook on low for 6 hours and shred. I like to stir it up and cook for another 30 minutes after I shred.

Ahh ok. That's basically the recipe I read except they used salsa instead of Rotel. But seeing as I have YET to try this infamous tomato delight, I'll try it with Rotel.

  • The original calls for either Rotel or a packet of our local grocer's pico de gallo. I figured you didn't have an HEB up there. :)  I've tried it both ways and they tasted pretty much the same to me, but the RoTel was much cheaper.

Totally agree Lark! I was so looking forward to seeing this movie and then when we did, ugh! Such a disappointment.

I went shopping with my mom yesterday and got a pair of jeans and 2 shirts. Since they are in a larger size than I want due to baby weight, no real fall shopping for me. I really wanted to buy some shoes but nothing struck me : (

    Nice win Leigha!

Mamie or Leigha, could you give me your pulled pork recipe too? I'm going to try the chicken taco one also, thanks!

  • Mine is stupid easy...but good.

    - place pork (either roast, shoulder, or butt) into crockpot. Pour a cup of water on it. Throw salt and pepper on the pork. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Separate the liquid and any fat pieces. Add a bottle of your favorite bbq sauce and mix/shred. Let that heat up. Then serve!

I do this about once a month and it is delish.  That chicken recipe sounds really good too - I may be trying that this weekend.

  • For my pulled pork, I think I just did a bottle of bbq sauce over the pork, with salt and pepper and cooked all day on low.  Then I shredded it.  I was going to try root beer, but I chickened out. Maybe when I get a cheap roast I will.

I think I'm in bizarro world with Mamie handing out recipe advice.

  • I know, right! I have only a few recipes in my repertoire. Very very few.
