Re: Unpopular Opinion Thursday
I really hate the OU/Texas time of year because people get super obnoxious about the game. None of you ladies have, but a lot of my friends have [on both sides of the fence].
Sorry if that offends anyone - it's not targeted at you guys or OU fans or Texas fans. Just my friends who think it's OK to say really cruel things about both teams, then use the excuse, "Oh, it's all a part of the rivalry." Like, "Oh, I hope Landry gets hurt like Sam did." If you think that's the only way you can win OU/Texas, you're screwed. End of story. And your team deserves to lose for wishing that upon someone you don't even know.
*steps off soapbox*
I agree! I also hate the stupid song that TJ, Janet and J-Rod do every year before the OU/TX game. I love there radio show but that stupid song!
I hate people who don't leash their pets. I took my dog for a walk last night around 10:30. We passed an unleashed dog in a yard. OK----invisible fence, right? Wrong. It followed us for 5-6 houses and kept getting closer and closer. It was a very big dog, too, which I'm unfortunately scared of since I got bitten twice while holding my small dog above my head the last time an off leash dog "followed" us. Even though the dog seemed nice enough (just like the last one, BTW), it was still scary (and dangerous for the dog to be roaming the street unsupervised, especially so late at night.)
So, secure your f-ing dog! Fence, invisible fence, leash---I don't care. Just keep it under control, for it's safety (and for mine!)
I just want to give a "Ha ha ha ha ha" to the person I work with that seems to think we are constantly in competition. I will be sitting on the 50 yard line. Enjoy your 10 yard line seats, dbag.
That's all!
Amen sister. I have a friend who has 3 big dogs (and just had a fourth one put down b/c he bites) and her dogs are constantly escaping and running around the neighborhood at all hours despite having an invisible fence. I don't care for big dogs, they freak me out, and I certainly don't think they're cute, but the way she goes on about how cute her dogs are and how funny it is that she has to chase them down when they get out... is SO annoying. I am not a pet owner, and irresponsible pet owners are a huge pet peeve. It is obvious her pets are having a huge impact on her life b/c she can hardly travel or go out without having to worry about what to do about them. This girl is single, mid-30s, prime of her life and she is being ruled by those dogs. Crazy.
This made me laugh out loud. Good job stripes.
See---that's what's weird. I actually like big dogs a lot. Most of them are big snuggly babies. UNLESS I've got my small dog with me. There's just something about him that radiates "I am prey. Come after me, please" to many larger dogs.
What's funny is that it doesn't happen if he's off leash. So, my little dog can and does play in our (fence) backyard with big dogs---no problem. The second he's on leash, though, his anxiety just sends out a signal to come and have him for a snack.
I have another one that's a s/o of the pets one:
I don't like that my apartment's gone to a pet policy, because people are so irresponsible. The people below me left their dogs for three days - and it's not like we have back yards or anything at my complex, so the dogs were stuck inside. Why would you leave your pets alone in a 1000 sq. ft. apartment for three days?! I almost said something when they came back yesterday. Sigh.
Ok guys; don't fight me...OUmania. I.don't.get.it. I remember when I first moved here and everywhere I looked there were OU plates. I thought to myself, wow there are a lot of college grads in this city. THEN I realized the culture. Entire families dressed in OU gear, babies with cheerleadering uniforms on, cars in OU red, really? No, REALLY???
I have never seen anything like it. I realize there hasn't been a professional team here until recently but Chicago has at least 5 or 6 pro teams and if you put us all in a group together we would still pale in comparison to OU fans. MH was in the war and while in Italy he said there was a tour bus that apparrently had some Oklahomans. In the middle of the street in ITALY some guys were chanting Boomer Sooner at someone wearing a Texas shirt. Crazy!
Welcome to the south. This is how it is in most southern states, even those with professional sports teams. We love our football.
BTW - the state of Texas goes gaga over HIGH SCHOOL football even. Its pretty crazy but a lot of fun.
This makes me proud and warms my heart.
I really like this about Oklahoma. Being an OU fan is something a lot of people have in common, so it's an excuse to get together every single saturday in the fall

I watched the 2009 National Championship in Paris with a massive number of OU fans. This little bar near our hotel stayed open for the game, DH and I decided to stop by (the game started at 2am Paris time) and next thing I know....it was packed with crimson and cream. We lost the game (also my 30th birthday) but I will never forget that feeling of pride - of being so far away from home yet feeling like I was among friends. It was great. I watched the OU/Cinn game in NYC this past weekend with tons of OU fans as well all decked out in their crimson and cream. While shopping on Saturday in NYC I saw TONS of people decked out on their OU stuff to show their Oklahoma pride on game day. OU, OSU, whatever - this is one of the many things that makes Oklahomans so special and I LOVE it.
Haha, that describes my feelings PERFECTLY. I am a Sooner, dh is too but even we frown at some of the extremities... dh made a comment that kind of summed it up, "do they have anything else besides football to obsess about?" Maybe it's due to the fact that we too are outsiders living here, it should be interesting to see that though...
I don't really get it, either, and I've lived here my entire life. I am not a sports fan at all, though, so that is probably why I've never really gotten the craze. My mom is one of those super crazy fans, though. She has an OU themed Christmas tree.
This. Exactly this. I don't give a rat's behind, most of the time, what other people do in their time on this Earth. Maybe it's the closeted libertarian in me, but I wish sometimes people would just leave each other alone.
As for the football thing...BOOMER
I didn't go to OU, so I don't get all crazy about it, otherwise it seems a little weird. But, they are like our own professional team here. OU football is almost as old as the state itself (maybe just as old).
That said, I support my alma mater and go to games as much as I can. They aren't televised but I keep up with them. After all my years of high school and college band, being forced to care, I came to truly love football.
That's the thing! There really isn't much else to obsess over in Oklahoma besides college football (any college sportI guess ) or Thunder basketball lol.

I feel you! I have a crazy brother who is a tea partier. We don't talk politics in our family. It just makes it more civil.
I can't stand Mary Fallin. I don't understand her popularity. Is it because she is 'conservative' and running anti-liberal ads? I haven't heard her say anything intelligent that is not scripted. Even her commercials don't make much sense.
I would like to see Oklahoma move forward, not backwards.
I agree!
Make that a third from me. The whole Faith, Family, Freedom thing kills me.
Here is a fourth. In 2008 when she was running for re-election to the Senate she had this ad that made absolutely no sense if you really listened to what she was saying. It drove me nuts. I was just telling H yesterday that I'm afraid to see what the poll numbers look like, because I think that woman would do our state no favors as governor.
Faith, FAMILY, freedom, huh? Didn't she cheat on her husband?
I have heard that, too, but I didn't ever look to see if it was plausible or just gossip.
