I haven't been to the Minnesota Zoo since I was a kid. Now with kids of my own, I think it would be a great family outing. For the amount it would cost our family to visit, it seems like a membership might be a better financial decision in the long run.
So...
-Do you have a membership? If so, would you get one again?
-Do you go year-round?
-What are there for winter activities?
-What are your favorite areas of the zoo?
-Any special zoo tips?
TIA!

Re: Tell me about MN zoo
We have a membership and I would renew it in a heartbeat. It is $$$ to go there and park. We pack lunch and have a picnic so as not to have to buy the nasty food.
We do go year-round. Winter time we mostly stayed indoors (I HATE THE COLD and schleping around coats)
Maya's favorite has been the sharks and dolphins, therefore they are my favorites
Tips? Pack a lunch and snacks. There are plenty of place to eat, even in the winter. There food is not good. Wear a jacket into the Zoo because the walk from the parking lot is super far. I bring quarters for the lockers to pack our coats and lunch until we need them.
Hope this helps!
Have you gone to the FREE Como Zoo to make sure they like animals? My boy loved the fans at the MN Zoo but could care LESS about the animals. My girl is scared by almost all the animals and both my kids, fast forward to ages 3/5, still find the Como Zoo animals boring and are constantly running and enjoying the action of being in public/fencing, anything physical they can do.
So, if I had any control over their personalities, we'd have a Zoo membership. But not with their utter lack of interest. Sigh.
We got a membership for Christmas and we go at least once a month if not twice. In the summer it's great exercise to get out of the house and walk the outside trail.
In the winter we hang out inside and walk the tropics and minnesota trail.
Having a membership lets you not feel back if you're only there a hour because the kids are having meltdowns.
I recommend going first thing in the morning (DD is up early anyways.) At 9 the only people there are parents with young kids. We leave by 11 and are home in time for lunch and a nap. It's the perfect weekend (kid friendly) activity.

We are going on our 2nd year with a membership & LOVE it. we go about once every week.
In the winter it would only do the inside stuff ( Mr.a loves the fish). Also like PP have said it's great if we can only go for 1 hour I don't feel like I wasted money
But just FYI MN zoo is doing BIG Remodel right now so getting to the inside part is a very long walk (well getting into the zoo it self is a long walk) so just know that if. The kids Den is closed
but other then that nothing else is effected.
