WWYD?

So I posted last week that I had pneumonia.  I was taking oral antibiotics for it, and Monday was my last day of them.  This morning when I woke up, I was covered in a rash.  Its just red blotches everywhere and its not really itchy or anything.  I called telehealth and they suggested it could by an allergy to the antibiotics.  They said to see a doctor.

So, I called my doctor, I can't get an appointment until next week.  I went to the walk-in clinic and they wouldn't see me because the dr there was from my dr's clinic.

Should I just suck it up and assume that I am allergic to the antibiotics (apparently you can have a reaction up to 3 days after stopping them)  or should I call my dr back and demand to be seen or should I go to emerg?  It feels stupid to be stressing over a rash, but at the same time I don't want to pass anything on to my kids.  WWYD?

  • I don't understand why the walk-in wouldn't see you. That doesn't make any sense to me. Can you go to a different walk-in? Or at a time when a different doctor is there?

  • I dont know either why they couldn't see me, I think its ridiculous.  I ended up not doing anything.  The rash is mostly gone, so I will just make sure I don't take that antibiotic ever again.

  • Totally ridiculous.

I'm glad the rash is going away on its own.

  • I got a rash like that from penicillin.  There are a lot of interactions with antibiotics - certain foods and even sunlight exposure.  I haven't taken it since just in case, but it did go away on its own after a few days - unfortunately - it is not pretty.
  • I had the same thing happen... a reaction on day 8 of 7 day meds. My own doctor prescribed high dose "Reactine" (allergy meds)
