Ugh people!

So the novelty of giving flu shots for $33/hr has just worn off. I wish people would go away and stop asking me stupid questions and being pseudo rude so that I can stop being annoyed and rolling my eyes.

I also find it disgusting that each time I rub someone's upper arm with an alcohol pad, dirt comes off with it. Wash your arms people. And then this other guy took a smoking patch off his arm and brushed it and skin flakes flew everywhere!! And I was up close!! Gag!! Now I feel like I have a booger in my nose and I'm afraid it's a flake I accidentally breathed in.

Re: Ugh people!

  • GROSSSSSSS!!!!!!!  Are these the free flu shots that they always advertise?  Last year when I got my swine flu shot, I didn't exactly come prepared... I was wearing a long sleeve button up shirt with a cami under it.  I had to unbutton the top few buttons of my shirt to slip my arm out.  Adam said this guy was ogling me obviously thinking that I was about to strip down and flash everyone... freak.  Adam said the guy was just sitting there totally staring.

  • No, they're not the free ones, I'm doing it at a family medicine clinic, so most of them have insurance/Medicaid/medicare, so they're not the free ones places advertise. some of the people that come in smell like old feet. I've been wanting to vent about this for the whole time.

by the way, since I can't edit my posts from my phone, I just wanted to say I'm not rolling my eyes on the outside so people can see. I'm not that much of a biotch today. Close though.

  • EeeewwwwwwIndifferent

  • See... that's one of the reasons that I would never be able to get into healthcare.  I wouldn't want to see all the gross people and have to get close to them.  Just walking into the emergency room waiting room makes me want to immediately take a bath in rubbing alcohol and hand sanitizer!!!

  • Yeah that is one of the problems with being in health care. There are so many eww moments. I've gotten used to so many things by now, but flaky skin and stuff people have coughed up are nasty.

  • I think the smell would be the worst of it.  I've seen some pretty unhygienic people.

  • Ok disgusted! People are just gross!!!
  • And that is why I work with animals.  When they are gross they can't help it, people can.  I could never work with people.  BLECH!!!
  • That's nasty. What's wrong with people????  I shower daily (sometimes twice a day) and I cannot comprehend people that don't clean themselves regularly. At least enough to have dirt come off when you swab their arm with an alcohol wipe.

And yeah, I think my dog is probably much cleaner than many people walking around out there....

  • And wouldn't you know I got a patient today (I'm at the hospital with my regular cancer patients) that has one of the types of lymphoma that affects you skin.  Google mycosis fungiodes and do google images...they aren't as bad as this person, but wow.  If I ever get this, send me down the river with a bottle of liquor and leave me to rot.  You flake skin EVERYWHERE and you have a funky smell and you skin just falls off.  It's disgusting.  Like usually I'm okay, but I really almost vomited this morning.  I'm a horrible nurse.
