Another work vent...
So I've had weight issues all my life, and I am perhaps a bit sensitive when people talk about weight (even if it's not directed at me). For example, my in-laws are very open when talking about weight. They've openly said to husband, "You're getting fat." It appalls me that they say that, but husband couldn't care less. (They've said it to me about my weight once, and I've promptly told them to keep those comments to themselves.)
One of my co-workers who I don't particularly like, and who has a history of saying fascinatingly inappropriate things (i've mentioned her before) came into my cubicle just now and started talking about IT guys. She was saying stuff like, "It's like a prerequisite that IT guys be as big as a house! They do nothing but sit at their computer and eat all day." And then she stopped talking like she wanted me to comment on it. I just told her (nicely) that I was kind of offended by the conversation, to which she seemed confused, but apologized and dropped it.
I'm not denying that there seems to be trend with IT guys being overweight... I just don't think it needs to be a point of discussion. Just sayin.

Even though she dropped it, you should send her an email reminding her that her remarks could come across as harassment. Send her this link from the EEOC. Maybe that'll get her to shut it. In fact, CC your boss--maybe it will lead to sensitivity training (or a warning in her file).
Well, one thing I am doing is keeping a log, so when i do decide to talk to my boss, I have dated records of poor encounters with her. I'm hoping to provide my boss with evidence that this is not just me on a whim but a pattern of behavior.
But that aside, I just don't think comments like that need to be made.

Marylin Monroe was a 14 (makes me feel than a 12). People are assholes....I'm glad you told her to shut up...but in a polite way.
What makes her a tool is that the IT guy that inspired her comment had removed a virus from her computer the day before. She wouldn't have a functioning computer if it weren't for him.
Okay, that's so wrong! Instead of being insulting, a muffin would have been a nicer way to thank him! Here's where karma needs to come in to play.
