Has anyone bought anything at BMO in Eagan?

lars and i are looking into finishing our basement bathroom and bedroom and don't want to blow our budget.

have you purchased anything there? what did you get and how did the price compare to what you could have found in a larger store?

Re: Has anyone bought anything at BMO in Eagan?

  • My mom bought a TON there when completely re-doing her kitchen.  She loved it.  She also bought us enough crown molding to finish all of our kitchen cabinets for $15.  It was just unstained/varnished but we know people who took care of that for free for us...

  • I haven't bought anything there... yet.  DH and I went to look about a month ago and from what I can tell, the deals can be amazing.  Tile wasn't a HUGE savings but doors, windows, trim, etc was a great bargain.  You might get lot ends where there is a knot in trim and you have to cut it out but if you have smaller runs to fill, it is easy to work around.
  • We got a Marvin sliding glass door there for $700.  I think it retails for $1200 so we did save a nice chunk.  BUT...it didn't come with a handle or a screen.

Keep in mind they add a 12%(? on exact amount) fee to all purchases.

We go there with a fairly good idea of what we want knowing that we might not find a 100% match.

  • We bought some carpet from them, and got a pretty good deal.  We were able to bargain them down a bit from the price they were asking (I don't think you can do this in all the departments).  There is A LOT of stuff there, so definitely have a good idea about what you want before you go!
  • We have!  Some things you can get at a GREAT deal - other things not as much.  The cupboards, as an example, are a good price UNLESS they are on sale at Menards or HomeDepot - then they are the same price once you account for the random fee (12%ish as someone else mentioned)

You have to hunt, and you have to be able to get it home yourself, so you lose the services (delivery, sales floor assistance) that you would get at a big box place, but the occasional deals usually make it worth it.

They also have a sign saying they don't allow children, just an FYI.

we walked right by that sign and didn't even see it until we were going to leave! shows you how much they enforce it.

we didn't find a ton of deals but we weren't looking super specifically either. we'll definitely go back with our remodeler since he has a better idea of what things can and should cost.
