Help!

We do a family portrait every year, and we always pick a color scheme.  We actually did an informal one last year, but the two years before that, we did red, black, grey, and white (pardon the unedited proof):

and light blue, cream, khaki, and brown (one of my favorite "Aunt B" pics of all time):

What should we do this year?  I'm kind of thinking black, white, royal purple, and denim...  I think jeans and white shirts are cute, but only if you're on a beach or outside somehow... Not inside with a solid background. Any suggestions?

Re: Help!

  • I say use dark denim, and royal purple, and maybe gray/black. I would cut out the white unless it's just a hint of white or only a few people wear it. This would also make either the black or white background work.

  • I like family portraits that are so matchy-matchy, but still color coordinated.  Here is a blog post that I really like that shows some complimentary colors for group shots.

  • I only say white because I like how in the first picture some people wore white shirts underneath... that type of look.

  • I like the purple, black, grey and white scheme.
  • I really like the denim with white shirts look. I saw some friends that did it. I think it needs to be done in the right way, though. Super informal looking rather than trying to dress it up. I'm a beach bum, though, and that's my favorite attire. I love the purple idea. Splashes of color are always good. You could ask for a purple background, too.
