We took both the pups to the vet today, for their annual check up. The doctor says Ruby is getting to be overweight, and needs to lose some. Of course she recommends I change her food, to a low calorie food you can only get at their vet office (and it's extra expensive). Otherwise, she suggested cutting out treats (store bought kind) and replacing with baby carrots. She said they are good for their teeth and are healthy for them. Anyway, I had a bag of baby carrots already, so I gave them each one just now. They love them! Of course, the food they eat (Halo) has carrots in it, and I make treats with carrot, too, but I've never given just carrot to them before.
Has anyone else done this? I absolutely recommend replacing at least some of your dogs treats with carrot sticks or baby carrots.

Haha, my dogs will eat anything.

How much does Ruby weigh? When Bailey got to 20.5 pounds the vet told us she had to lose some weight too. We cut back on snacks to once every other day and that made a difference. She's at 18.5 pounds now.
I'm sure we could give her baby carrots and she'd eat them. She already eats everything we drop on the floor.
Today, at the vet, Ruby weighed 22 lbs. She was up to 25 lbs this past spring, and lost those three or four lbs over the summer. The vet still thinks she needs to be under 20lbs.

Yes. Grapes and raisins are just as toxic (if not more) than chocolate.

We do this too. Jake's favorite are baby carrots though.
