Going from the Pill to NFP/FAM- Advice!
I have been on hormonal BC since Feb. 2008... First I was on Yaz, which made me a crazy person. Then my OB/GYN switched me to Lo-Estrin FE which I was on for about a year before changing to NuvaRing (in July 2009)- I LOVED NuvaRing until July of this year, I started spotting everyday for two weeks (very rare for me, I never spotted even prior to being on BC), which turned into a full blown period. My Dr. then put me on Natazia (a new BC approved by the FDA earlier this year) to "hopefully relieve the bleeding"... I have been on Natazia for about a month and a half and it has not been helping. Yes, I know it can take a few months to take effect, but I'm tired of putting these chemicals in my body. I've been researching NFP/FAM and would like to use this as my method for BC... I'm just asking for any advice y'all could give- your favorite charts, thermometers, anything! TIA

I use it to chart and the lessons they provide are very helpful. Just make sure you get a true-blue BBT thermometer, easy enough to find.
I used back-up protection (condoms) for my entire cycle until I got the hang of it and trusted the method. It took me about three months to get there.
Good luck! If you have any more questions, the Getting Pregnant board has a lot of women charting-to-avoid that are a great resource/support.
Ditto! Reading this book right now. I'm still on BC and plan to be until we begin TTC then I will start charting but it is a GREAT book with a lot of information and I feel totally prepared to start charting when we are ready!
GL!
Ditto. Which reminds me I need to get this book back from SIL, thanks! lol.
Always take your temp when you first wake up. Be very open with checking your cervical fluid (and yes that means getting it on your hands/fingers) and writing things down.
Honestly I can tell now just by cervical fluid when I am about to ovulate and when I already have. I've been doing it for about two years now.
H and I started FAM/condoms in July. My period has been all kinds of crazy since August so that has complicated matters. (I have an appt with my gyno next month.)
I recommend TCOYF and my H has an app on his Droid that we use to chart temp, record mucus, and when my period comes. The app tells you when your fertile days are, when you are going to ovulate and when your period is going to start.
It took me about 6 months to get on a regular cycle once going off the pill. So if you've recently gone off the pill then its very normal to have off periods.
I stopped taking BCP this month and started charting after reading TCOYF. We were going to start TTC, but now that we'll be waiting another year, I'm not going back to BCP. The website, www.TCOYF.com has a lot of good resources. I didn't like the online charting option, but I was able to print off charts to do it all on paper.
I'm still not seeing much of a pattern. Looks like I might be in for a bit of a wait before things settle down.
