Zumba?!

Anyone do it? My sister wants me to go to Zumba with her, but I'm almost embarrassed to go. First off a blimp dancing is not the nicest sight, and I have 2 left feet. So Is it easy lol. Or am I going to make a fool out of myself?

Re: Zumba?!

  • I've wanted to try it cause they offer it at the Rec Center which is right down the street from me, but it just doesn't really work with my schedule so I haven't gone...I've thought it would be really fun, but yeah I'm so self-conscious about my weight I don't think I could do it!
  • youtube it and watch it and ask yourself... can I do that? Or sit in on one of her classes, i am sure there are other people who have two left feet too.

  • Girl, who cares if you make a fool out of yourself!! Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind! Go have fun, regardless of who is watching! At least you're getting active, right? I'm sure I look silly when I run but I do it anyway. Let me know how it goes :)

  • I am a terrible dancer and always self-conscious and I love Zumba.  You catch on to the songs (they are usually the same) so it gets easier.  Also, there are people of all sizes in my class.  If people want to think something about someone trying to lose weight they are very good people then.  Go try it!

  • Here's my take on Zumba:

    1) It takes 3 sessions with the same instructor to really feel like you're figuring out some of the dances.  As a result, the first 1 makes you feel lost, and the second one, you're looking for more progress and getting frustrated, and, most importantly, not feeling like you're getting a work out.  By visit 3, it's more familiar, you can anticipate where you're going, and you start to work harder. And SWEATING.

    2) everyone who started a zumba at some point had the same exact experience.

    3) I focused on looking at the instructor, not looking at myself in the mirror.  When I looked in the mirror, I was scared and sad at my own reflection.   But then, after a few months of the diet and exercise I was doing, the lady in the mirror wasn't so scary anymore.

Try it, but commit to trying it a couple of times before really deciding whether it's for you or not.

I loved it.  I was taking a "Zumba Mix", which is part latin, part hip hop. Then they changed the time to a time I couldn't make after work, and it makes me sad.
