Le Bernardin

Alas, there was no silver fox encounter, but holy smokes, that was probably the best meal I've ever eaten.

We opted to do the chef's tasting and no wine pairings, which was the right call.  It didn't include their famous surf-n-turf but no matter, because the rest was amazing.  The sommelier recommended a white burgundy that was perfect with the menu, and we were toasty by the end of the meal, but not trashed.  My favorite course was a tie between this amazing poached egg in a mussel broth and the baked lobster with golden beets and a grapefruit based sauce.

The icing on the cake?  The experience.  First class service and elegant ambiance without any kind of attitude or pretension.  Every member of the staff smiled at us.   Best experience I've ever had at a French restaurant in NYC.

Only one negative: there was a group of three couples dining near us and one of the women had zero self-awareness re: the volume of her voice.  I like my fine dining without a side of loud, obnoxious NY JAP.  Lucky for us they were seated towards the end of our meal.
